President Trump's weekly job approval rating has hit its highest point in months, according to a new poll by Gallup.

Gallup found that Trump's weekly job approval rate was at 39 percent during the last of week of December.

The approval rating for the week was an improvement from Trump's low of 35 percent, seen just weeks before.

The same trend is seen in poll aggregators like Five Thirty Eight

Which kind of proves that these polls don't actually reflect the public's "job approval" of any President so much as they reflect the public's perception of the human being based on the week's news.

I would hardly call this any kind of a surge:

He may have gotten a bump from Repubs after signing the tax giveaway, but I doubt that it's the beginning of a trend, with what's coming out lately.

He'll get a bump from people who think he's being mistreated.

Semantics? "pretty strongly" =/= "surge" in my lexicon, but I can see why that might seem like what I meant to imply. He has bumped along hitting his lowest 35% rating four times since summer but in the space of a couple of weeks he went from one of those scrapes along the bottom to the 39% high level that he hasn't reached since July. Maybe it's an exaggeration to characterize that as "pretty strongly" but I think it is notable. I have some hypotheses about why it is happening but I am not confident about any of them - probably a combination of things.

Look at this way - if that was a stock, would you buy or sell?

I see his numbers bouncing in a trading range that is pretty close to the margin of error - sharp moves while still under 40% don't mean much imo.

He got a bump because of the tax bill. From people who think they will benefit.

Was inevitable that completing a promise would raise his ratings a bit. Still historically low.

Those people got a hump from Trump.

I'd sell a short time 40/45 call and if gets down near 36ish sell the 35/30 put
