It plays right into the Hamas campaign to attack Israel which has been playing out over the last month. Using human shields...

The whole thing is sickening.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

You're being played for a fool, Hal.
Hamas had this planned from the beginning. I have been posting their statements for weeks. I'm sure you are surprised by the following:

source:[www.ynetnews.com]
Hamas called for an uprising on Monday night after violent clashes on the Gaza border resulted in a high death toll.
"The natural reaction to the death of people who were protesting peacefully should be with an Arab and Islamic intifada (uprising)," said Khalil al-Hayya, the deputy Hamas leader. "The Palestinian response must be clear in Gaza and in the West Bank. There is no other choice but to light the fire in Gaza and in the West Bank in response to what happened."

"Hamas is monitoring the marches and stands as a shield for them," he added.

Speaking at a border encampment, Al-Hayya said that Monday's protest was timed to coincide with the "deplorable crime of moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem."
"Our people went out today to respond to this new Zionist-American aggression, and to draw by their blood the map of their return," he said.

They send their pawns to die and then get mad.

and the leaflets said, "Don't go near the border. You will be shot." And Hamas's fool victims like this guy did it anyway.

Here's an article from Israel's left-wing Ha'aretz newspaper from 2010. See anything familiar? The tactic is the same, only this time Hamas decided to boost its diving popularity by sending Gazans out to get killed by rushing the border.

Israeli Arab MK: Israel's Actions in Jerusalem Are a Second Nakba
[www.haaretz.com]
Israeli Arab MK Jamal Zahalka, marking the Palestinian "day of catastrophe" or Nakba, said Saturday that if Israel's government were to go ahead with its construction plans for East Jerusalem, a "third Intifada would erupt," calling "what is happening today in Jerusalem a second Nakba."
-
Meanwhile Saturday, leaders of rival Palestinian factions displayed rare unity on as they Nakba day in a joint rally in Gaza, raising hopes of reconciliation between the two bitter rival parties.

It was the first time leaders from Islamist Hamas and the more secular Fatah movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas shared the platform at a large public gathering since Hamas seized the Gaza Strip from Fatah by force in 2007.

The rally, which was organized by the much smaller Islamic Jihad group to commemorate the Nakba's 62nd anniversary, coincided with reports of serious talks between Hamas and Fatah to find ways to resolve their differences. Top Palestinian businessman Munib Masri who has been heavily involved in recent mediation efforts, expressed cautious optimism, telling Reuters that "the coming days may result in a positive outcome, but we should not expect too much."

Here's an article from July 30, 2014, about Hamas using the same tactic when they started the last Gaza war. [www.vox.com]

Amnesty International, which has a number of people on the ground in Gaza and consistently condemns Israeli and Palestinian abuses alike, announced recently on its site that it does not see proof of Hamas using human shield — but they added an important asterisk.

"Palestinian armed groups have stored munitions in and fired indiscriminate rockets from residential areas in the Gaza Strip," an Amnesty report noted recently. The groups have also "reportedly urged residents in some areas of the Gaza Strip not to leave their homes" after Israel had warned it would attack the area, all of which have the effect of putting Palestinians at risk in the fighting.

An important secondary question, though, is whether they do this out of a deliberate desire to hide behind (or even provoke the bombing of) Palestinian civilians, or out of simple disregard for putting those civilians at risk.
Some observers argue that Hamas is more than just indifferent to civilian deaths, and may be doing something even worse than hiding behind them: that the group actively wants Israel to kill Palestinian civilians so that Hamas can rally world opinion against Israel.

Some of these observers have met and interviewed Hamas leaders, some have not.
The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg, who has interviewed Hamas members, wrote that the group "is trying to get Israel to kill as many Palestinians as possible" because "dead Palestinians represent a crucial propaganda victory for the nihilists of Hamas." While that is not exactly akin to using unwilling human shields, if true, the effect would be in many ways similar.

The Globe and Mail's Margaret Wente wrote, "Hamas openly encourages civilians to act as human shields," pointing out that a Hamas spokesman had encouraged Gazans to "defend their rights and their homes with their bare chests and their blood." While again this is not actually the same as human shields, it is another form of culpability.

Hamas Sending Messages It Might Tone Down the Gaza Protests
Israel warns that it may strike Hamas leaders in the Strip if the violent protests continue; army braces for possible rocket fire overnight

(Israel's left wing newspaper Ha'aretz)https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/.premium-hamas-suggests-it-might-tone-down-gaza-protests-1.6091850
Hamas has conveyed indirect messages to Israel that it might change tack in the Gaza border protests Tuesday, but Israel isn't certain whether the group really aims to rein in the violent demonstrations in which the Israeli army killed 55 Gazans on Monday.

Israel warned Hamas on Monday that it might strike senior Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip if the violent protests along the border continued. On Monday, 58 Palestinians were killed in the clashes, the Gaza Health Ministry said, with more than 1,000 people wounded by live fire.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman approved the opening of the Kerem Shalom crossing for the transportation of goods on Tuesday, a step recommended by the military in light of international criticism of Gaza's lack of basic goods, including medical equipment in hospitals.
According to military sources, at least 12 of the Palestinians killed Monday were members of armed squads who were shot trying to breach the fence via explosive devices in two different incidents.
So far all attempts to breach the fence have failed. In the afternoon the air force bombed a Hamas training base in northern Gaza. The military threatened to continue assaults on Hamas military sites if the violence continued Tuesday.

Hamas is gearing up for another day of mass violent protests, Nakba Day, marking the Palestinians’ “catastrophe” in the establishment of Israel. In the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority announced a three-day mourning period for the dead in Gaza. There were demonstrations Monday in the West Bank, but only a few thousand protesters took part and violence during clashes with Israeli troops was limited. The army will continue to beef up its forces at least until the weekend. Regular training has been suspended due to the situation in Gaza and the West Bank. The army is also bracing for the possibility that Hamas and Islamic Jihad might respond to the Gaza deaths by firing rockets or mortar shells at Israel overnight.

This all happened as clearly stated and predicted beforehand: Hamas said exactly what it was planning for mid-May back at the end of March; and Israeli intelligence was able to precisely predict what was going to happen on Monday.
For months now, security forces have been warning that Gaza’s infrastructure and economy is in desperate straits, unemployment is surging and with it, feelings of frustration and rage. It is also known that Hamas is under unprecedented strategic pressure: It can’t bear the economic burden of governing the Gaza Strip (also because it insists on investing huge sums in its military forces), its relationship with the Saudis and Egypt is poor and all efforts at reconciliation with the Palestinian Authority have failed.

It was therefore clear that Hamas sees these demonstrations – under the guise of popular, spontaneous protests – as a way of extricating itself from this trap, even at the price of the lives of dozens of people who stormed toward the fence under sniper fire.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians had gathered on the edges of the fenced off blockaded territory from midmorning. Many came to peacefully demonstrate, bringing their children, carrying flags. Food stalls sold snacks and music blared.

But the protests appeared to have a more violent edge than in previous weeks. Some young men brought knives and fence cutters. At a gathering point east of Gaza City, organizers urged protestors over loudspeakers to burst through the fence, telling them Israeli soldiers were fleeing their positions, even as they were reinforcing them.

Israeli snipers were determined not to allow a breach, and ambulances soon began screaming back and forth from the fence, as gunshots rang out over the crowd. No Israeli soldiers were injured, though, and Israel drew widespread condemnation for an excessive use of force.

More than 2,700 people were injured, according to the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza, including 1,359 from live ammunition. The dead included six children under the age of 18, among them a 15-year-old girl, and a medic, the ministry said.

The United Nations said that "those responsible for outrageous human rights violations must be held to account," and Human Rights Watch described the killings as a "bloodbath." Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned a continuing "massacre" of the Palestinian people. Both Turkey and South Africa announced they were recalling their ambassadors from Israel.

...Increasing economic hardship has fueled frustrations in Gaza, along with wider despair across Palestinian territories amid moves by a U.S. administration seen as wholeheartedly on Israel's side of the decades-old conflict.

At least 110 Gazans have been killed over the past six weeks, according to health ministry figures. At the demonstrations east of Gaza, some said the force used by Israel would only bring further unrest.

Standing a few hundred meters from the fence, Nirma Attalah, 29, said her 22-year-old brother had been killed two weeks ago. "My brother was shot in the head in this place," she said. She had come on Monday with her whole extended family. "We are here for Jerusalem, for Palestinian land," she said.

Human Rights Watch criticised Israel for using live rounds when there was no immediate threat to Israeli troops or civilians and said the policy had “resulted in a bloodbath that anyone could have foreseen”.

...One Israeli soldier was lightly injured by a rock or a piece of shrapnel.

...Of the 43 victims, at least six were below the age of 18, including one female. At least 200 of the wounded were below the age of 18, 78 were women, and 11 were journalists. Thirty-nine of them are in a critical condition.

The depth of their shame: Hamas is using journalists as human shields for their rock and protest-sign-wielding child-soldiers now. And some of the children launched black balloons at the sky.

It's almost as if they don't enjoy being treated as chattel.

Some of them, yes.

Didn't say otherwise.

The military has been a bit indiscriminate about who they're shooting.

Of all days, this would have been a good one for Israel to show some grace and dignity and allowed a bit of dissent with minimal bloodshed.

You mean the day on the anniversary of the founding of Israel on May 14, 1948? How thoughtless of them.

The Palestinian protests are ordinarily planned for Israel Independence Day (May 18 this year). The only reason Hamas and friends moved it up was not solely because of the U.S. Embassy opening, it's because Ramadan starts on Wednesday and Hamas couldn't raise the crowds they needed to die for them.

as I said, most Israelis were more interested in the Eurovision victory, not Ivanka slinking around or Gazans committing suicide.

After Eurovision victory, Netta welcomed home by 20,000 Israeli fans
[www.i24news.tv]
Twenty thousand adoring fans gathered in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on Monday night to welcome home Israel’s winner of the 2018 Eurovision song contest Netta Barzilai and attend a free performance in honor of her historic win on Sunday.

Crowds packed the the central city square to hear Barzilai perform her winning song “Toy”, which was long favored to win after its trills, chicken-like clucking sounds and lyrics that embraced #MeToo movement making it a viral and catchy hit.

“Tel Aviv, I love you! Look what we did together!” Barzilai said excitedly addressing her swarms of supporters to the background of illuminations lighting City hall reading "Netta", "Toy", and an Israeli flag in celebration of the victory. “Look at everyone together! We have such a reason to be happy!”

Only days before in the early hours of Sunday morning following her historic win, massive street parties erupted in the square and across the country. Tel Aviv police said they were caught off-guard by the impromptu celebrations as fans blocked the surrounding roads and splashed about in the public fountains.

“This is a great moment for me, for the [Israeli] delegation and for the country. I am happy that we managed to create a reason for joy in a country that does not have a lot of reasons to celebrate,” she said at a press conference after she landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion airport.

“There is nothing like an Israeli party. You will find out next year ,” Barzilai, 25, told the crowd after her win in Lisbon, Portugal. “Next year in Jerusalem!”

In this particular case, it is the US that has shown a lack of grace and dignity, and perhaps a deliberate intention to incite. Israel celebrates Independence Day according to the lunar calendar, and Palestinian protests take place accordingly. The US officials chose to open the embassy on what THEY thought was Independence Day, even though it wasn't, and they didn't trouble themselves to understand the difference.

Bringing on the end-times, guys, bringing on the end-times.

We know from independent journalists that Palestinians regularly are used as pawns. We also know that Israel controls conditions in Gaza that make Gaza life insane.

Both sides got what they wanted here, so why all the hand-wringing?

Speaking of journalism, it's taught on the first day of school you report the most serious news event. Like killings. It's great that we know the context behind it all, but the context isn't the day's "news" per se. When writing, it makes no sense to precede every news item with paragraphs of backstory intended to either soften, or refute, the impact of (the dead.)

Hamas is desperate and being squeezed. And it's not only Israel:

source: The Guardian
Meanwhile Egypt’s crossing point at Rafah is often closed and Cairo uses access to put pressure on Hamas and the 2 million people in the territory it rules. Mahmoud Abbas, the West Bank-based Palestinian president, condemned Monday’s killings from Ramallah, but he is hostile too, withholding the salaries of Gazan Palestinian Authority employees because of a row over taxes and legitimacy dating back to Hamas’s takeover in 2007.

what a bunch of crap..this is a long fought turf war..and the Palestinians are motivated, angry and militant..duh..the folks 'behind' this movement have been various over the years..the ones pulling on strings..getting people to 'do stuff'..i dont give @#$%& about Hamas>>>>PLO whatever..Do you know any Palestinians? I do. 2 of my clients are that and they are regular, modern folks with excellent world views..but they are passionate, militarized, heavily politicized, angry, lonely, isolated in their worlds by the stigma that has been put forth and nurtured a bout these people..people find out that they are Palestinians and they take a step back from them..always good to keep in mind that everyone is the same..we're just a 'little bit' different..we all have the same needs and solid, stable homeland or place is very important..This culture is being @#$%& with and painted unfairly..a people who have seen the need for war on their own behalf..just like us and just like ANY culture anywhere on the earth has experienced..and these cultures have also been 'manipulated' by forces in the shadows..behind them..their own governments..The US..The Germans in WWII..it happens almost every time there IS a conflict..

The fact of the matter is that Trump and Netty are involved in action that designed to provoke and that there is clearly a pre designed response in this action..and it @#$%& sucks..One of the main objectives on the Israeli side over the years has been to dehumanize the Palestinians..to paint them ALL as savages..and they have been successful at this..What we're seeing now is the culmination of that..people outside of this are suckers and fall into this hole of believing that these people are animals unfit for anything..

The Palestinians have been victimized and exploited by their 'leadership' for seven decades. The UN and assorted countries (including the U.S.) have handed over billions to these unelected, corrupt rulers who have used it to exploit their populations. And it has led to nothing but trouble.

For instance, the largest forced displacement of Palestinians from an Arab state took place in 1991 when Kuwait expelled most of its Palestinian residents in retaliation for the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) endorsement of Iraq's brutal occupation of the emirate (August 1990-February 1991). It mattered little that this population, most of which had resided in Kuwait for decades, was not supportive of the PLO's reckless move: From March to September 1991, about 200,000 Palestinians were expelled from the emirate in a systematic campaign of terror, violence, and economic pressure while another 200,000 who fled during the Iraqi occupation were denied return. By September 1991, Kuwait's Palestinian community had dwindled to some 20,000.

Thanks, Yasser (you self-serving moron)!
Palestinians should get rid of both Hamas and the PA.
(for that matter, the Israelis should also oust Netanyahu's coalition)

Hope you are sucking up those propaganda headlines...even though some seem to be 'Pure Pallywood'.

4:10 P.M. : Gaza health officials: Infant's death may have been by natural causes, not tear gas

Gaza health officials are casting doubt on initial claims that a 9-month-old baby died from Israeli tear gas fired during mass protests on the Gaza border with Israel. A medical doctor said Tuesday that the baby, Layla Ghandour, had a pre-existing medical condition and that he did not believe her death was caused by tear gas. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of he was not allowed to disclose medical information to the media. Layla's family claimed Tuesday that the baby had ended up in the area of the protest as a result of a mix-up. The Gaza Health Ministry initially counted her among several dozen Palestinians killed Monday.

A Gaza human rights group, Al Mezan, says it is looking into the circumstances of the infant's death. (Haaretz)

Or the French
(In 1894, Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish officer in the French army, was unjustly accused of treason, mainly because of the prevailing anti-Semitic atmosphere. Herzl witnessed mobs shouting “Death to the Jews” in France, the home of the French Revolution, and resolved that there was only one solution: the mass immigration of Jews to a land that they could call their own. Thus, the Dreyfus Case became one of the determinants in the genesis of Political Zionism. Herzl concluded that anti-Semitism was a stable and immutable factor in human society, which assimilation did not solve.
