BMW moving some SUV production from US to China thanks to tariffs

“Our agreement sets a long-term framework for our future in China — a future involving continued investment, further growth and a clear commitment to the development and production of electric vehicles,” said BMW CEO Harald Krueger said.

The company also said that it will raise prices for U.S.-produced SUVs sold in China because it is "not in a position to completely absorb the tariff increases” after China slapped a 40 percent tariff on U.S. car imports, according to the newspaper. The action was in response to tariffs on Chinese goods imposed by President Trump.

I just can't take all of this WINNING!

That original story was a little misleading, and has since been corrected. They are not moving work out of the US, they are increasing production in China. They are also still investing and INCREASING production in South Carolina.

BMW said Tuesday it has not changed its plans to invest another $600 million and hire an additional 1,000 workers at its Spartanburg plant, even though the company announced it would step up production of new vehicles in China.

The German automaker and Chinese partner Brilliance Automotive Group Holdings on Monday announced a joint venture called BMW Brilliance Automotive, which will boost the number of vehicles produced annually at two facilities in China to 520,000 in 2019.

BMW spokesman Kenn Sparks said the company’s new electric iX3 SUV will be produced in China only, and that none of the expanded vehicle production in China will detract from any production of the X models made at BMW’s Plant Spartanburg.

We are in a global economy, I have been to couple BMW affiliated plants in Zhejiang province, supplying components to all of their plants, worldwide, those parts will find their way here, as well. There are many ways around the tariff world. They just become something else, like plumbing or electrical components, which they are also.....
