Starbucks just declined my hometown's invitation to open a store downtown. All we have are stores selling beer by the can, nail salons, check cashing places and vacant storefronts.

Used to have a KFC and Taco Bell there and they object to Starbucks?

there is a city CORE area. The gas stations, KFC, A&W and such are not in the CORE.

TV news had made this pretty big. They want locally-grown shops. I can't blame them, there.

Starbucks pays more than neighborhood places and offers benefits. Why support local retailers who do not offer all the goodies Starbucks does?

I can't tell if you are serious or joking. They did that maybe 3-4 seasons ago. The chain coffee store was called Harbuck's, and they were threatening Tweak's parent's store. (Tweak is usually jacked up on coffee FYI)
