That nugget certainly stood out from the Fresh Air interview [www.npr.org]

I'd include the pullquote but for the Phorum Database Error.

I'd include the pullquote but for the Phorum Database Error.

When I run into that, it's usually due to "smart" (curly) quotes or odd hyphens in the original text. Changing the curly quotes and hyphens to plain ones usually cures it.

I gave it a go, changing a couple things, but no dice. I took the text from the web site, put it into a text editor and converted it into plain text. That ought to get rid of fancy crap, no?

To my way of thinking, if I paste PLAIN TEXT into a forum, I don't give a rat's patoot if some of the Unicode isn't stellar ... although, a database error written with more of English hint would be a good idea. Possibly one that actually highlighted the offending text, instead of programmer-speak gibberish. The error is after all, directed to the end user!

Plain text is plain text to me. I'm not (yet) pasting Cyrillic here. Phorum should figure it out IMO.

Sometimes I have quotes that will not post. I have emailed plain-text emails to myself and changed all the punctuation and STILL the quote gives a phorum error. It's incredibly frustrating.

Highlighting the problem would be GREAT, I wish they could/would do that.

I think there are some invisible characters - like paragraph breaks that can do this as well.
