Venezuela is STILL a failed state and getting worse and worse

We heard at work that we closed our factory in Venezuela a couple of weeks ago. We had been running the facility (not a huge place, but in place for almost 50 years) on a cash basis, pretty much using black market $USD currency for everything. At inflation rate that recently blew through 40,000 % the Bolivar is cheaper than toilet paper (if you can get it).

And since the government is in classic dictatorship mode, we had to evacuate as many of our employees from the COUNTRY as possible. That's right... we pulled people and their families out. Those that wanted to stay were moved to more secure locations and guarded by private security.. all paid in $$. Before they left they shredded all the documents. We remote erased all the computers.

And a week later the government has seized the factory, arrested those employees they could find, and forced them to work to try to produce OUR products so they can sell them. People I worked with were arrested, and their lives threatened.

Good thing one of the few adults in the WH talked the Orange Child out of that particular temper tantrum. Yeesh.

Just like Obama and Bush.
Damned humanitarians, always caring about citizens, you'll never find liberals caring about other people.

I understand what you mean, but I would like to point out that history seems to be pretty clear that it's not liberalism or socialism per se that's the problem. Scandinavian countries are often described (with some justification) as Socialist states, and they have some of the highest standards of living in the world.

The problem, it seems to me, is authoritarianism and one-party rule. For instance, "strongman" Duterte is hardly anyone's idea of a liberal, yet the Philippines is lagging the rest of Asia under his iron fist...even lagging the actual socialist states like China.

Right-wing fascism often succeeds impressively in the short term, but almost always collapses. Yet conservatives love to use Stalin as the "liberal, socialist" bogeyman, while ignoring the equal-to-worse disasters that conservatives like Franco, Hitler, and Mussolini were for their nations.

the actual socialist states like China. .
Not cleat on concept, are we?
Norway, yes, but China being an example of "actual" socialism?
...quite illustrative ....
Maybe you can describe the difference between, left and the right wing fascisms, then tell us how both differ from national socialism, pdq....

The nordic countries practice mostly free market capitalism. Hardly the socialist nirvana the loonies on the left want their ignoramus base to believe. What the Nordic countries really practice is compassionate capitalism.

...which the Right in this country frquently derides as “socialism”. In fact, it’s neither entirely one nor the other: Norway, for instance, has a number of state owned enterprises or is a major stockholder in many private enterprises.

You might check out this article in Wikipedia on the “Nordic model”, which includes:

Quote

An elaborate social safety net, in addition to public services such as free education and universal healthcare in a largely tax-funded system.

Strong property rights, contract enforcement, and overall ease of doing business.

Public pension plans.

High percentage of workers belonging to a labor union.

Partnership between employers, trade unions and the government

...and total tax burden of around ~45%.

You can call this whatever you want, but empirically, it works, and exceeds the US in any number of objective and quality-of-life measures.
