"Mysterious Letter from a Woman About Brett Kavanaugh"

Rumors are that it concerns something that happened when both were in high school. Feinstein referred it to the FBI.

I doubt that it will matter anyway. I think Collins is just doing her usual "I'm really a centrist" song-and-dance, but has no possible intent to vote against Cavenaugh, regardless.

.....Two officials familiar with the matter say the incident involved possible sexual misconduct between Judge Kavanaugh and a woman when they were both in high school. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter..............

is this the end......link to NY Times article........?!

This.

They don't have the votes, have never had the votes. High school, really?

high school? really.. The man is 53, so he was in high school from 1979-1983. Different time, different mores. Unless it is a provable felony, then move on.

It isn't going to change the vote.

Maybe he got her pregnant and paid for an abortion. Would that change any votes?

I had high hopes this morning -- but when they released the information that the accusation is of sexual misconduct I said "crap". Not a game changer.

Well, maybe if it was against a pre-teen boy.

Collins always votes with her party except when 1. Another high-profile republican promises to vote against; and 2. It benefits her politically. You can track this by looking at the press around key votes. If another high profile republican defects just before the vote and gets lobbyists promising money ("support") as a result, she *might* jump ship. Otherwise, she always votes the party line. This seems to be an unwavering rule. Those promises that party leadership makes/breaks to her are irrelevant. It's a show. She makes no "careful consideration" of the candidate. She makes few/no independent decisions and she never makes a move without campaign money on the line. You need BOTH to kick her and even then she's not very likely to do anything different.

What this translates to when a judicial nominee is up for consideration: She has voted with her party 99% of the time in over 500 votes.

She's not the maverick you're looking for.

I also heard gambling...hum?

Massive gambling debts, paid off all at once, mysteriously.

Massive credit card debts and a giant bank loan for sports games, paid off all at once, mysteriously. (Who puts a lien on their house for sports tickets??) There were stories suggesting that he committed bank fraud by taking out a loan for home improvements and then spending most of the money on season tickets.

Cumulatively, something like $200k just for the games. Still haven't heard a good number on the gambling debts. Just "tens of thousands of dollars."

How did he pay it off? He has "good friends" who "reimbursed" him.

One might think that a good reporter would dig up some of those friends to get another side to the story and maybe follow the money trail.

I dunno why those stories never seemed to gain traction in the press. It seems to me that putting a gambling-addicted felon on the bench is a little irresponsible. Kind of weird that a man like that would be considered a viable candidate at all, even before it turned out that he didn't know the difference between contraception and a medical abortion, had clearly decided several cases without concern for written law or precedent, and made up a fake law (decision overturned en banc) in a horrible judgment that kept a woman from having an abortion on the premise that as a non-citizen she was a non-person and thus had no civil rights or due process protections under the law.

You don't call the FBI over nothing. I'd say he did something embarrassing (rape/abortion/pedophilia/etc) in high school, paid off the victim to stay silent, and has been laundering the $200k in hush money. It's not the original crime that is necessarily the issue, but the cover up. He'd have lied under oath in the hearings, too.

Yeah, well, seems in-character. There's evidence of perjury, too. Lied about the Bush letters under oath. His emails contradict his statement that he considered Roe "settled law," explicitly stating that it was not settled. Lied about his position on affirmative action which he's previously called "naked racial set-aside." Lied about his involvement in the nomination of a racist, misogynist anti-choice judge to the bench.

Didn't matter. The senate hearings were a farce. He could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and he wouldn't lose the vote.

Indeed, as mentioned, it didn't matter when she blew the, uh, whistle either.

Its all being aimed at Collins and Murkowski. If straws are what you have, you grasp them. Supreme Court Justices can be impeached.

I wonder how far the rape allegation will get investigated after he's voted in. Cause it surely won't happen before.

You are correct. The FBI said they are doing nothing about it.
