Melania's costumes in Africa. What?

She says "pay attention to what I do, not to what I wear."

Honey, choosing what to wear during high profile international visits is something you DO. The way not to be scrutinized for your clothes is to wear something normal instead of dressing like you're headed to a Gatsby party.

In Egypt she's channeling Dr. Belloq the French archaeologist from Indiana Jones, not sure why she'd want to invoke the Nazi era. Then the white pith helmet, symbol of white colonialists.

This woman takes white supremacy to an entirely new level. What message was she trying to send? "Hell, sh@thole countries, your superior has deigned to pay you a visit."

What makes you think she lives in anything close to reality?

Someone is #sadly under the misimpression that their attention or opinion is of concern to the First Family.

Nobody thinks that the Trumps are reading this forum. It's a conversation between a small number of people about political topics. If you're not interested feel free not to comment but why the sarcastic put downs? Having a bad Saturday?

1. She's not very smart.

2. She was a model and then she sold herself to enjoy a life of wealth with no responsibility. She's infantile and stuck in a dress-up-doll phase.

3. See #1.

She lost the right to make this kind of statement when she wore a trenchcoat with pretty offensive language hand-drawn on the back.

It wasn't hand-drawn. It was a printed mass-market jacket. A cheap one.

She sent one of her aides out to find that specific jacket before the trip.

For all the talk about "messages," it comes down to this: Someone told her about the jacket and she thought that it would be fun to wear.

She enjoyed being an agent of chaos.

...Like I said, "infantile."

It's futile to read anything more into her activities. She is too dumb to have any deeper motives.

Trump decided not to marry any more smart women when he discovered that after all of his failures in Atlantic City, Ivana was able to make his casino profitable. His idea for making money: Topless dancers on the gambling tables. Hers: Make the casino more family-friendly, keep it clean and bring in high-quality popular entertainment. As soon as it became clear that she was better at the business than he was, he quickly fired her and dumped her for Marla Maples.

Uneducated foreigner living like a Beverly Hillbilly now.

Couldn't help but laugh at her horse riding costume, though. Was she thinking she might have to ride those little elephants? patriot smiley BeBest

Let me post an atypical picture and try to convince you it's a typical picture, so that Melania's tone-deaf colonial garb, and therefore her, seem normal.

The only smart thing she's ever said was written by Michelle Obama.

I had a terrible Saturday. Didn't you?

My point, poorly done, was intended to convey my opinion that the First Lady (and First Family broadly) don't care much about optics, as long as they are personally satisfied with the image presented. Unlike former First Families (say, the Obamas, or the Bushes) who spent a great deal of time and effort considering how best to represent the nation and its people whenever in public, this cadre seems to care only about preserving and promoting its personal brand.

Well, yeah, politically speaking it was the worst.

I see what you mean and I certainly agree.
