For many black voters, 2020 isn’t about pride or making history. It’s about beating Trump
[www.latimes.com]

“They are so sick and tired of being sick and tired of Trump, there’s this almost unconscious feeling they’re going to go with the candidate that is more likely to beat him,” said Ron Lester, a Washington pollster who has spent decades surveying the attitudes of black voters.

For many, Lester said, “that is probably a white male,” given their deep-seated belief “that America is still a very racist place and a very misogynistic place and that a candidate who doesn’t get any white votes is probably going to lose.”

I agree voters should be pragmatic and see a bigger picture, so I don't understand why 2020 should be any different from any other year.

I realize most Americans are likely apathetic and don't vote, or if they do, could be swayed. But that's not something to blame a politician for, no matter how rotten the elected may be.

I disagree with blaming Obama for Trump, because a "backlash" does not equal a majority. If Obama opened the door for Trump, such pendulum swings would mean our next president would logically be a true socialist, of which none exist despite right winger dire pronouncements.

I'm pretty well documented about who I "blame" for Trump. I'm all about winning first, then battle it out.

Let's hope the rest of the democratic party is on the same page about beating Trump, but hopefully it won't require pigeon-holing the candidate to be a white male. There are viable candidates that are not white males out there somewhere.
