Turns out that automakers actually want higher MPG standards imposed

Dunno about this one. Seems like crocodile tears?

For decades automakers bellyached about stricter emissions and MPG regulations. Said consumers should be free to pollute and slurp gas. Car enthusiast magazines echoed that.

And then a funny thing happened. Seems it’s cheaper to design one vehicle and not two, one being just for CA. I suppose they didn’t know how to argue this other way. The link above is about them publicly coming out against the White House, but very late. Thanks?

White House says that CARB didn’t come up with something something @#$%&. CARB said negotiations ceased when the White House stopped answering the phone. Also, Obama.

Shareholders like certainty.

If Drumpf keeps on with this BS, it'll take years to work through the courts.

What the auto makers are really asking for is for CARB to weaken their standards as a "compromise" and make it a national standard. I'm sure all of those "state's rights" people will defend CA for sticking to their requirements.

California really doesn't have much choice. One can only cringe at the the cloud of photochemical smog over this state in late summer with fires blazing and cars cranking out fumes by the ton… fires are much harder to control than automobile emissions.

The Trump Administration, cutting government regulation on everything except a woman’s uterus.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.
