An effort to weaken the inevitable House impeachment

Jim Jordan might be added to the House Intelligence Committee (bumping someone else off) if approved by McCarthy. "I want to help the country see the truth here, that President Trump didn’t do anything wrong, and that what the Democrats are doing is partisan, it’s unfair and frankly it’s ridiculous."

No preconceived nothings there, LOL! Totally neutral. Why, exactly, even be there if your vote is already known, not being in any way influenced by testimony past, present, or future?

Matt Gaetz further says their team needs blatant partisanship: "@GOPLeader has full discretion to put our most effective questioners on intel for this matter,” Gaetz tweeted. “If @Jim_Jordan @RepMarkMeadows & @RepLeeZeldin aren’t moved on in favor of Republicans who have skipped a majority of the testimony, then shame on us for failing @realDonaldTrump."

Yes, yes, Matt. We know all about where your allegiance lies. F the Constitution. F anything and everyone who stands in the way of Dear Leader.

Here's my question. Why, if these clowns weren't previously allowed/assigned to that committee, would they suddenly be acceptable there?

Is there any precedent? The GOP is lately all about that these days. Or so they say.

Committee assignments are paid positions over-and-above their regular salaries. They often come with perquisites that can be shared with others (and therefore used as bargaining chips).

As a result, they are seldom handed out on the basis of any substantive qualifications. They're political favors roughly tantamount to bribes.

So, the question isn't about their "acceptability" as candidates for the committee. The question is, what did they trade for the consideration?

They use to be assigned by seniority, that led to criticism of the domination of chairs by a group of old fossils and resultant stultification. Of course when reform came, it came in the form of allowing party heads significantly more power and patronage having the desired effect of enforcing party discipline.

Witness the current state of the GOP, no one steps out of line without paying a price.
