Margaret Sullivan is right. If you’re confused, you’re either not paying attention or have let yourself be lied to.

Note that her column about the media (regarding politics) appears in the Lifestyle section of the paper.

Sorry, I was in a rush and forgot the link.

I think I know more people disinterested in politics, even on a cursory level, than I do engaged in some way. A few are stuck in a no-man’s land of being aware tangentially but still more concerned that there’s strife and discord than what the issues may be about. It’s a “turn off,” as if it’s supposed to be entertaining?

Driving people to disinterest is no accident, the constant tweets, the almost daily childish insults, the constant bombast has that as its object and primary effect.

An engaged electorate is not something either the right wing or current Republican Party can afford. They'll spend every ruble they can lay their hands on to produce as many shiny objects as they can dream up between now and the election.
