Iran denied Visa to attend UN meeting

Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian foreign minister, said on Tuesday that he had been rejected for a visa to attend a Security Council meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York, confirming reports from American news outlets that he would be barred.

Mr. Zarif, in an interview with the Iranian news outlet Press TV, said that his office had requested a visa weeks ago to participate in the meeting on Thursday, rejecting claims by American officials that they had not had time to process the application.

“The Americans are trying to create the impression that our request to attend the meeting was put forth following the assassination of General Suleimani,” Mr. Zarif said, according to the news outlet, adding, “The question everyone needs to be asking this lawbreaking administration is: What are they so scared of?”

When the rest of the security council and general assembly complains, the administration will use it as a first step towards the US withdrawal from the UN. That will be followed by the demand that the UN move to a new location outside the US.

All moves that will make Trump even more popular with his shortsighted base.

They played all the sides, pitting every conceivable constituency against one another. Majorities broadly against minorities. They did the same thing in England and all over the world. If you can't "superpower" then bring the superpowers down to your level. Doesn't work in China. They spend their efforts making themselves indispensable to as many countries as possible.

Violates the UN HQ setup agreement of 1947. (Delegates may be severely restricted in travel within NYC, but that's different. No kabobs from halal street wagons for you!)

This is more incompetence from the Trump White House. Attempts at petty vengeance is not policy.

Incompetence? It undermines the principles of and U.S. commitment to the United Nations. That is 100% what they want to do in this administration. You don't approve, but this is very effective policy deployment on Sweet Potato Saddam's part.

Agree on this!

It's much simpler to tear something down, than it is to build something up. Moscow didn't have to try that hard. Just a ratty portrayal of Iago was all that was necessary. There are winners and there are losers because you don't always win nor do you always lose.

Then, there are the destroyers. Destroyers don't want America. They want "their" America. They're willing to risk destruction in order to forge a new society in their image. They sell pie in the sky. They're Moscow's playground and they play them like fiddles. It makes sense because they get to damage their main competitor without firing a single shot. I'd probably do it too if I were Russia.

Agree on this as well!
