"End the GOP"

As the RNC straightforwardly informed us during the Moore scandal, the Republican Party is the political arm of the president. Defending Trump’s effort to enlist a foreign power in the harassment of a political opponent has been an utterly trivial undertaking for a party not only willing to send an abuser of children to high office on Trump’s behalf, but also willing to sidestep and deny numerous allegations of abuse and rape against Trump himself.

The propaganda and misinformation campaigns that characterize what some have called a new post-truth era under Trump should, in fact, be quite familiar to those who remember the denialism that characterized defenses of the Iraq War and the hundreds of thousands of casualties it produced. The two Republicans who have occupied the White House in the first two decades of the new millennium have shared not only an address, but an enthusiasm for torture and war crimes, a zeal for using fear and the threat of terrorism to quash political dissent, and near-total support from the Republican political establishment.

Amazing article, a long, but good read.

Thank you, $tevie, for posting it.

But in order to do that, we need to break the right-wing propaganda machine; Fox, Rush, Hannity, local right wing talk radio stations masking as "news" stations, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube other social media trolling, and so on. There was an interesting article written by a reporter who went full hog into the right-wing propaganda establishment by signing up for all sorts of Republican newsletters, listening to Fox and right-wing talk shows, and in general trying out what it was like to be a conservative consumer of media. This reporter's takeaway was that even they started doubting what was real and true, and what was not. I'll see if I can find it and post it, I think it is a valuable read.

As still a registered Republican, I get mailings from the party from time to time. (I have never sent a dime, so the mailings are few except in the heat of the fall campaign.) The other day I got a "census" questionnaire. It was all loaded questions like, "Do you support Nancy Pelosi's socialist agenda to destroy America?" and similar. Ripped from Fox News/Hannity/Rush talking points word for word.

I am in the most conservative county in my state, and many of my fellow peers in my demographic are GOP. I get LOTS of their faux news and communications.

If this was an open election year, I'd likely have gone to a GOP primary to vote assuming there was actually a real choice. Keep in mind, The Idiot finished FIFTH in my state in total votes collected during the 2016 election.

They (Rs) have quite the operation at hand. For instance, whenever there is Bad News that they cannot defend (I know, let's not try to count), quite literally overnight my FB feed from my R friends is chock full of Hillary, Obama, Pelosi memes. They are really controlling their flock very well and sending them off message when talking about the Prez is simply impossible.

Quite. But IIRC, the Republican party chair in MN has arranged to keep all other names off the primary ballot, just to show total devotion to the Orange Fuhrer.

I guess you could write in.
