Coronavirus headlines - it's spreading

The reporting is fairly straight so far. Even the financial fallout news seems to be reasoned. The 'plague ship' cruise line story is the only one going tabloid.
1) Do you expect this factual reporting to last?
2) Will the religious fanatics try to pump this up into "God's Revenge"?
3) Will the internet go nuts and explode this as the virus expands?
4) Will the 'biowarfare' nutjobs (Sen. Cotton f'instnce) prevail?

Did you see that Ukraine wouldn’t let a plane carrying possibly-coronavirus-exposed folks even land? Can’t find the link right now...

A good example. Is that good factual reporting, or is the story an attempt to make people more nervous?

I've been sourcing a few electronic audio items over the last few weeks,
smaller boutique companies and several of them are completely out of parts
for their most popular products...can't get shipping from Asia because
of the Coronavirus thing..very real and heard it three times when calling to try and find
existing stock around the country...weird feeling to it.

"Coronavirus-infected Americans flown back to US on plane full of healthy people"

Quote

The 14 coronavirus-stricken Americans evacuated from a cruise ship in Japan were flown back to the US on a plane full of healthy people against advice from the CDC, a report said Thursday.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials argued the 14 infected Diamond Princess passengers shouldn’t be flown back with the 300 or so virus-free people — but ultimately lost the battle to the US State Department, according to the Washington Post.

Another example of administration political amateurs overriding professionals. The appearance of saving Americans from the virus along with the subsequent headline splash was more important than actually safeguarding them.

Well, think of the money it would cost to charter an extra plane. Even if they spread it to others on the plane, only a few percent would die. It’s all about cost/benefit.

Both the Japanese and American medical and airline pooped their pants on how passengers (Americans specifically) on the Diamond Princess were evacuated.

People coming down the gangplank were all touching the handrails with no gloves. They were stuffed into cramped buses (not sure if they were segregated) and then sat at the ship terminal for several hours. Then uninfected/asymptomatic passengers were put on airplanes with known infected patients for 10-12 hours. I don't think they could have done a worse job unless every step had been planned to spread the coronavirus as widely as possible (maybe after landing, incinerate the planes with all on board... RollingEyesSmiley5 ).

Every passenger should have been evacuated as soon as the official part of the cruise was over, and the Americans immediately flown back to isolation. This double 14 day stint in isolation is absolute BS. The Japanese cruise passengers should have been put into single isolation ASAP, but Japan didn't seem to have any facilities to do this.

They could have used one of the smaller military transports for the 14 infected passengers, wrote off the expense as a training mission.

Just 24 hours after I posted this topic, I think the news has taken a turn for the worse. Still no outright panic headlines in real news sources.

The real news is carrying mentions of people in Japan stocking up food supplies (lotsa ramen). Real reporting saying apparently volume at Chinese restaurants and other Chinatown businesses has taken a sharp dip. So there is something going on among the population in various spots.

The digital media might go completely nuts, however. If you see something notable, let us know. This is a classic story (and coverage) to follow around the world.

I started this thread as a comment on news coverage, the headlines and how people are perceiving the story.

Well, I started this story to create a total worldwide panic.

Rupert Murdoch's NY Post is leading off manufactured panic with this loony bin opinion piece.

The bioterrorism leak story has already been debunked at the nucleotide-level. Just in case you wanted to know what science says these days.

Imagine if some lab in China was working the long game. They "discover" a new coronavirus in bats fifteen years ago. They publicize it so it becomes an accepted natural source. It turns out they actually seeded it back then. Now they only need to splice in a switch at a typical site for mutations to trigger a huge increase in transmission rates and spread to humans.

I was just reading through [mobile.twitter.com] a NYT reporter mid-East/Iran expert. Sounds like it could be getting really bad in Iran.

Wow - just terrible when the public doesn’t trust the government. We may be approaching that soon.

We blew past that point long ago - about the same time Sean Spicer was appointed WH spokesman.

...and then they released it (or activated it) in their own country. And Iran, apparently.

That’s nutty.
