In other news, Hungary just ceased being a democracy

Prime minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party, which gained 70% of parliamentary seats with 49% of the popular vote in 2018, granted the authoritarian leader absolute control through what may be the final blow to Hungary's liberal democratic system yesterday.

Orban now rules the country by decree, and has promised to jail anyone promoting disinformation ("fake news") about the government or the pandemic crisis.

The rest of the European Union has put him on notice that there is no room in the EU for that form of government. Be interesting to see if they actually take any concrete steps, if they give Hungary the boot it's the Hungarian populace, not Orban, who will pay the price.

Trump probably thinks Hungary is the only nation now that should be in NATO with us.

What I find unnerving is that not even a majority of the populace voted for this party, 49%. So the majority is being dictated over by a minority.

Kind of like here, if you think about it. Except for the dictatorship part.

That's yet to come, an ill informed, weak-willed citizenry is almost always steamrolled - one way or the other.
