I saw the post either here or there today. I thought i would fill you in on the geek specifics tonight as i jst got back from the bar from a binge with the engineers.

saturn 5 launch. payload for a saturn 5 is rated at 45,000 lbs. probe weighs in at about 1,000

So the launch vehicle was pushing well less than 3% of what it is rated for. At T+8 hours it was passing the moon. the Apollo capsules took almost 3 days to reach the moon.

This is the fastest man-made object ever....by a far margin. Some un-godly velocity with alot of 0s after it.

It is Thirstday, so forgive my typing...

Great week for me. i touched the new horizon's hardware (through gloves) and the Stardust stuff as well.

Don't get all excited, there was plenty of foil tape and Zip ties launched into space. the Zip ties were UV rated, that is the difference.

About the stardust. Do you think there is a chance that intelligent life will ever evolve on this planet?

. . . . or do we all only exist in the head of G'man. Wait hold that thought, it presumes something not in evidence.

I wish they hadn't adopted that name. Here in So Cal (likely elsewhere as well)New Horizons is an oversold senior health plan.

If Gman had ever been sprinkled with stardust, we would know who he is.

no amount of talent will ever overcome a lack of the ability to negotiate a good contract.

I am not a great photographer, but I can negotiate a good contract and produce on time.
