Great.

Now people will be raiding the stores to buy ten for each household member and another ten for spares.

I got the last one they had at the Kroger pharmacy about 10 days or so ago.

Yeah one of those has been on my list also. The trouble, as the doc says in the video, is that you're still probably gonna meet resistance when asking to be tested/admitted when the numbers on your gadget drop.

We have a systemic issue with Official-izing so many things like this out of fear of over-reacting. This virus is re-writing the rules faster than we can recognize them.

When we look back on this, I suspect there will be several aspects that look so easy to prevent.

One for each finger? What about the toes?

Had one for several years now. Every house should have:

Stethoscope
BP Cuff
Thermometer (ear or temporal or sublingual)
Pulse Ox meter
Blood sugar meter (If over 40)
Otoscope

In a world with video docs I expect internet versions with inline cameras too.
I even have a little flex camera that I can play through my cell to look in ears, throats, noses, etc.

From what I've read most inexpensive ones are grossly inaccurate...e.g. ~6%.

You have to go up to certified models costing a couple hundred bucks to get one that is accurate.

I bought this one.

For the past 20 years, my O2 sat has always been 97% when checked.
This device read it also as 97%.
My wife's O2 sat is generally 100%.
This device read it also as 100%.

I can't guarantee they are all that accurate, but mine seems to be.

Depends. Show them an O2 sat of 90%, if busy, they might not bat an eye. Show them 79%? Watch ‘em jump.
Anything 89% or lower should make them concerned enough to at least confirm it with their own equipment.

You mean Happy Hypoxia? It's an interesting side effect of having covid-19. Here's an article about it from Science mag:

I compared it with a pulseoximeter from a physician's office, wearing them simultaneously.
The physician's pulseoximeter read a constant 97%.
The device I purchased read 95-96%, then dropped for a few seconds to 85% before returning to 95%.

So helpful, but no real substitute for the real thing.
