“ 68 got COVID-19 after Utah County businesses told sick employees to work”

About half of one business got infected. The story is as much about how the County fears what will happen to the businesses if they out them, citing that they aren’t publicly-facing businesses (I suppose employees never go home or roam around the county.) The event was buried in a FaceBook post, in an image of a text doc.

Nothing will prove a pandemic is a business threat to these people until their actual employees don’t show up for work due to being sick. Actually, not even that, given the County’s stance on “privacy” here. It’s the Republican way: abstract threats = no threat whatsoever.

Don’t think the Party is directly responsible for that culture? Is your brow furrowed? Tell it to the INFECTED.

Asked if the businesses will be fined, Dunn said Utah County did not have a public health order in place at the time of the business’ outbreaks, so there is no force of law if they didn’t follow the recommended preventative COVID-19 guidelines.

No worries. Even if there was an order in place, Moscow Mitch will get them immunity.

We need to protect our businesses from the evils of the worker.

Wow.

From the linked article:

Quote

“If we were to release the names of the company and the people knew that half of those employees had been sick, they may take inappropriate action and target them in some way that would not be appropriate. ... And so that’s why these privacy laws in place is to protect individuals from consequences that they really wouldn’t deserve.

But they’re decidedly not protecting individuals, they’re protecting businesses that obviously had no problem exposing their individual employees to “consequences that they really didn’t deserve”.

This is seriously f’ed up. As advocated later in the article, if such businesses knowingly, intentionally flaunted policies aimed at protecting employees, there ought to be some kind of negative consequence or other unscrupulous folks will get the message and feel free to do the same.

When simply letting people know what you’ve done is a negative consequence, there’s a good chance what you did wasn’t a good thing, and you’re less likely to do it in the future if the public knows about it.

I was hoping that the 'work when you are sick' rule that most American businesses have (including mine) would go away altogether during this pandemic. Nope.

OSHA won't do anything, they've had their teeth pulled by the administration.

We could all get back to work and shopping sooner if we'd all follow the guidelines. Covidiots are forcing this to drag on. This is a hard fact: One sick person can infect dozens in a matter of hours. Prove how you can prevent that, and your business can open.

... Prove how you can prevent that, and your business can open.

And this is the entire crux of the disagreement. Business owners and their supporters are being allowed to play by different rules. No one is asking them for proof of safety, yet the proof of lost revenues is held up as equally important.

I’m tired of seeing Democratic politicians say, “oh but there’s the virus!” As if that alone is a convincing argument. People obviously don’t care. They know about the virus, they just aren’t putting the puzzle pieces together as to why or how it’s a threat.

We can’t assume people can parse simple knowledge. They must be spoon fed, remarkably.

Don’t even get into, “oh, this is an Order, you must lock down” until and unless you have that Kindergarten conversation FIRST. Apparently folks need this spelled out for them.

This really is a situation of one idiot in a thousand will start this all over again. Because that's 350,000 idiots. And that's just in the US.

I despise selfish and stupid people. Ignorance can be cured, arrogance and stupidity are forever.
