Well, this is really weird

Did you hear that sexual assault allegations were made against Dr. Fauci?

Fortunately, I didn’t, because now the woman who made them says she was paid to do so. And she does so in Reason, a semi-wingnutty site that advocates for “Free Minds and Free Markets”.

Just a tidbit about the folks involved:

Quote

For those lucky enough to be unfamiliar with the exploits of Wohl and Burkman, they are pro-Trump provocateurs who've found a niche drumming up fake sexual harassment allegations that end comically badly, including against former FBI Director Robert Mueller (who turned out to have been serving jury duty the day he was supposed to have committed the assault) and Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (the press conference for which took place on Burkman's stoop, and whose supposed victim was a 24-year-old Marine).*

There’s also a summary at Salon, if you prefer.

All of this is pretty horrible, not the least because it feeds into women being disbelieved when they legitimately report sexual assaults. But then maybe that’s part of why these (male) miscreants do this against progressive targets, or just folks that aren’t under Trump’s thumb - whether it’s believed or exposed, it’s a win-win either way.

The initial accusations are page 1; retractions end up on page 10, somewhere near the obits.

"Mother Nature has to clean the barn every so often," Burkman says. "How real is it? Who knows? So what if 1 percent of the population goes? So what if you lose 400,000 people? 200,000 were elderly, the other 200,000 are the bottom of society. You got to clean out the barn. If it's real, it's a positive thing, for God's sake."

Charming, aren't they? Their worldview justifies most anything.

The real thing is that thus represents a worldview held by a significant portion of our national population. It's not a majority view, but then the National Socialist view in 1933 Germany wasn't yet a majority view.

20 or 30 years ago those views were so unacceptable they'd have had to be kept them to themselves, today - not so much. It's partly a result of the false flag of nationalism being flown with an assist from the winds of xenophobia and the normalization of hate.

Reason is in fact a Libertarian publication, and believe it or not they rate a High on mediabiasfactcheck.com and their trust rates highly on Charity Navigator. My friend's nephew is on the board and he's not a wing nut job.

Sorry, $revie, I’m going to have to disagree with you on this one. Ron and Rand Paul are classic libertarians.

That’s wingnuttery in my book, and what I’ve seen from Reason in the past fits right in with that.

$ is correct.
Reason is factually dependable; it's how they screen those facts through their ideology that leads to the wingnuttery.

No argument here, other than if you view the world thru wingnuttery-tinged editorial glasses, you get wingnuttery.

But kudos to them for laying this one out straight.

Edit: If you look at their main page, the majority seems to be bitterly complaining about Covid restrictions, (or complaining that Canada’s new ban an military-assault style weapons is “arbitrary and authoritarian”).

...which is LibertarianIsm, I guess, but it looks like wingnuttery to me. Your opinion may vary.
