Burr steps aside as Senate intelligence chair amid FBI probe
[apnews.com]
WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., temporarily stepped aside as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday after the FBI served a search warrant for his cellphone as part of an ongoing insider-trading investigation tied to the coronavirus pandemic.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the move, saying he and Burr had agreed that it was in the committee’s best interests.

FBI officials showed up at Burr’s home with the warrant on Wednesday, two people familiar with the investigation said Thursday, marking a significant escalation into the Justice Department’s investigation into whether Burr broke the law with a well-timed sale of stocks before the coronavirus caused markets to plummet.

Kind of surprised - has Burr not kissed the Orange Emperor's ring lately?

No, he hasn't. In fact, the committee he chairs has agreed with the Mueller report so far, plus they have a final release of information yet to come.

If you're into conspiracy theories, you might be tempted to think that smearing Burr (which is totally deserved, by the way) might have been made a priority by the DOJ in order to get a more Trump-friendly chair appointed to the committee.

Senate Intelligence....

a true oxymoron.

Exactly! The effort started weeks ago on Tucker Carlson’s propaganda and comedy show.

Sen. Loeffler couldn’t be more supportive of Pres. Trump if she were a jock strap.

He's also being sued for investment fraud by fellow shareholders in some of the stocks he dumped, such as Wyndham Hotels. Certainly was an astute investor to know in mid- February that the domestic travel industry was about to completely tank.
The plaintiff makes the obvious point that if the general public had known what Burr knew in February the stock price would have already been much lower.

He had around $150K in that company, the stock has lost half its value since Burr sold his shares.

That early morning knock on the door is coming her way soon. Unless she's already cut a deal with DOJ and is ratting out bigger fish. She's a pretty big trout herself though.

That assumes the DOJ is operating as the Department of Justice rather than the Department of Whatever-Trump-wants-and-Barr-can-deliver.

Indeed - it could be that Trump just doesn't like Burr and thinks he can install someone better

I think that is more than a conspiracy theory, more mainstream outlets are starting to suggest that.
