SCOTUS protects Roe v. Wade in Louisiana...

In short, the law that requires that doctors who provide abortions have admitting rights in hospitals was struck down.

The opinion if you like that sort of stuff. The score bu justice is complicated.

BREYER, J., announced the judgment of the Court and delivered an
opinion, in which GINSBURG, SOTOMAYOR, and KAGAN, JJ., joined. ROBERTS, C. J., filed an opinion concurring in the judgment. THOMAS, J., filed
a dissenting opinion. ALITO, J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which GORSUCH, J., joined, in which THOMAS, J., joined except as to Parts III–C and
IV–F, and in which KAVANAUGH, J., joined as to Parts I, II, and III. GORSUCH, J., and KAVANAUGH, J., filed dissenting opinions.

They've been trying to make something out of this catch-22 for years.

Their proposed law says doctors performing abortions at PP (for instance) must have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

But no hospital wants to grant admitting privileges to such a doc because they'd be picketed by the Right-to-Lifers from the next day til forever.

In practice, if a woman had a complication emergency that required hospitalization, they could send her on her way (by ambulance if necessary) to any US hospital and that hospital couldn't deny her emergency care.

But it's almost academic, since that almost never happens.

Roberts is definitely not going to win any Republican popularity contests.

Whatever my opinion on abortions is, in what reality is John Roberts a "librul"?

JR is a minimal literalist. While he voted with the majority, his footnote left plenty of room for further attacks by those who enthusiastically support the state control of women.

Why did the court take the case if it was almost to an identical Texas case that failed?

It only takes four justices voting to hear a case (Thomas, Alito, Kavanaugh, & Gorsuch).

To see if Roberts would cross the road. (He didn't, but pointed to the pedestrian signal and shouted, "I have to wait until it flashes *NEW RESTRICTION*!" to the four waiting on the other side...)
