Note to self, change jobs and become a contact tracer.

Methinks they will have lots of work for months, maybe even years to come.

Hard to say if it was just the rally 18 days ago. The article says there were five large events in total. But, no doubt, the rally contributed to the increase. I would expect an increase in nearby counties/cities like Oklahoma City.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

They don’t make squat. Heath Department workers, Social workers, Educational assistants, etc. grossly underpaid.

That's too bad, but also maybe explains part of the reason why we're now in the situation we are.

Did some quick Googling...

$16/hr in Florida ($33,000/yr assuming no unpaid time off and working for a full year).

$24.52/hr in Washington, DC ($51,000/yr assuming no unpaid time off and working for a full year).

$25/hr in New York ($52,000/yr assuming no unpaid time off and working for a full year).

$31.25/hr in California ($65,000/yr assuming no unpaid time off and working for a full year).

These are the publicized rates, which are usually completely fake. It's probably part-time work with no benefits and frequent layoffs. In fact, if you and your fellows do your job very well, you'll be putting yourself out of work.

Also, the job can be really demoralizing. You're on the phone all day trying to reach people, who won't answer and their mailboxes are full, to give them bad news.

And some have no interest in helping the government track their contacts concerning a fake virus.

OK fine, instead of a contact tracer, then how about a funeral director ? They've got to be busy right now. eye popping smiley

The markup on coffins is big, but the main line of income is in the hearse, hall-rental and funeral services.

Cremation is barely more than a loss-leader and a burial with two socially-distanced guests and a webcam isn't going to do much for the bottom-line.

Costs don't go away when income does. Taxes, mortgage payments, power and supplies, licensing and keeping skilled employees...

The bodies are stacking up, but not the profits.

Funeral homes are hurting.
