Portland, without federal agitators

On Thursday, the first protest held since the federal agencies agreed to pull back their officers was a markedly more peaceful affair.

As the Black Lives Matter-inspired vigil wound down early Friday morning, there was virtually no sign of the Oregon State Police officers who had taken over protection of the federal buildings at the center of the protests.

Instead of being forcibly removed from downtown’s Lownsdale Square and the adjacent Chapman Square, which lie opposite the barricaded Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse, the crowd thinned out on its own, with many protesters heading home of their own accord.

All that money and violence spent attacking Americans, and for what? Flush the worthless DHS away, along with all the contracts that enabled this circumstance to ever occur.

For footage to be used in Trump political commercials.

Anyone who thought that the creation of this Department of Homeland Security would have a positive impact on anything simply needed to set a time-machine for 1930's Germany.

One of my friends used to call it "Department of Fatherland Security."

So you support the burning of Federal Courthouses and lasing the eyes of US Marshals?

I want ambiguity, or possibly something else.

“It’s scary. You open those doors out, when the crowd is shaking the fence, and ... on the other side of that fence are people that want to kill you because of the job we chose to do and what we represent,” said a Deputy U.S. Marshal who has been protecting the courthouse for weeks. He requested anonymity because protesters have identified him and posted his personal information online.

Except according to the rest of the article, NOBODY is interested in killing him and his reactions are putting him outside the confines of proper discipline for his job. Let him go home and cut grass...with no pay.

Fascinating how the arguments about Law and Order ignore issues like American citizens being kidnapped and put in unmarked vans, reporters attacked despite being by-standers and showing their credentials, and far-right 'activists' starting riots by attacking property.

Convenient to ignore those other events.

That depends. Do you support the fact that violence subsides when the citizenry isn’t needlessly provoked? Welcome to issues that have context, a la the real world.

Trump ordered federal forces to quell Portland protests. But the chaos ended as soon as they left.

“You will find these Oregon State Police troopers are not easily provoked,” [said] Travis Hampton, superintendent for the Oregon State Police.

In Chicago, one of our mayors summed up the situation more than 50 years ago: “The [poorly trained federal agent] is not there to create disorder. They’re there to preserve disorder.”

How many federal police officers have been hospitalized for injuries directly caused by protesters?

The way they were outfitted it appeared they might exit a small nuclear blast unscathed.
