NY Post says it’s down to Harris, Rice

I know, it get’s dicey when you pass on political info from a fish-wrapper like the Post, but:

Quote

...people close to Biden believe his search has narrowed to either Kamala Harris, the Democrat senator from California, or Susan Rice, President Barack Obama’s national security adviser, and they would be “surprised if he picks anyone else,” the report said.

A third contender is California Rep. Karen Bass, but her stock appears to have fallen in recent weeks after years-old comments of her praising Scientology and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro surfaced.

Personally, I’m okay with either. Both are tough enough to withstand the torrent of slime either is going to receive, and dish some back as necessary.

I think Rice as a pick would make conservatives heads explode, so along with all of her other qualities, she’s got that going for her. wink smiley

Both would be great.

I personally love the idea of Rice. Fox has been showcasing her comments recently. I'm thinking it's to try to keep her from the running.

However, there are some who would think her too right to be a Dem VP.

You don't think Harris would explode some heads?

(I am entertained by the attacks on her on the basis of her call for equal pay for women and an end to racial discrimination in the workplace. She's clearly pushing an un-American socialist agenda!)

I’d love to see a tRump - Harris debate; she’d wipe the floor with him. But of course, sadly, that debate would never happen. whine smiley

You don't think Harris would explode some heads?!

Oh, of course. But the Faux News crowd has been demonizing Rice for so long I think it would be roughly equivalent if Trump replaced Pence with Hannity or Tucker Carlson.

(Except, you know, Rice has a ton of high-level government experience, and is a straight shooter rather than a nakedly political hack).

The Post is Rupert Murdoch's daily lying mouthpiece. No credibility AT ALL.

Rice has major foreign affairs chops. And brings the 'Republcans who hate Trump" more cleanly into the Biden camp. Honestly its a brilliant bit of kung-fu. Of course the racists and he-man women haters will run away, but they are peak Trump fans anyway, so there's no redeeming them.

Any V.P. needs to be able to bring the country together in the event of _________.

Anything else is a distant second, although most candidates pick them for “strategic” reasons (short term gain.)

That's already been settled. A forest fire that's been put out. Let 'em talk. There "will" be something new. As you mentioned earlier, Karen Bass' Scientology/Cuba scandal. Nobody cared one way or the other a few weeks ago (all that criticism came from the left btw). There'll be something new for everyone.

Yep.
I admire Karen Bass a lot. Of all the nominees for VP, she's done the most work in terms of governing. She exceeds Elizabeth Warren in that. Harris' first governing role is now, in the US Senate. Bass has grass roots organizing experience that goes back to Bobby Kennedy. She's been highly effective in everything she's done. I can see why Pelosi favored her over Harris to get the VP nod.
And yeah the Scientology stuff is nothingburger, oppo from Team Harris but that's how the game is played.

I’d posit that a few weeks ago most people had never even heard of Karen Bass.

Indeed. The roots of her district (next door to Maxine's) goes back to the legendary Yvonne Braithwaite Burke, (whose daughter Autumn, is my Assemblywoman) followed by the legendary Julian Dixon (all the Metro lines crisscrossing L.A. are because of him. Partners with Henry Waxman/Howard Berman machine fame, Adam Schiff followed them), he died in office and was followed by the legendary Diane Watson, who retired and passed the torch to Karen Bass.

When everybody marched, protested for Black power, a woman like Karen Bass is the culmination of that dream. So many have businesses, jobs, childcare, Healthcare because of her (much of it before she was even elected to anything).

I'd be disappointed if Team Kamala leaked anything damaging about her. Khive yeah, they're rabid.

I love learning about this stuff thank you for filling that out.

"Khive" is who I mean by Team Harris...I agree I doubt she was personally involved in that.

I agree. I think this is the wrong election to try to introduce what is for most people a new name. The mood of this election is We Don't Want Anything New. We Want to Turn Back Time.

One of the only reasons I feel pretty good about Biden as the candidate. Even disgruntled Repubs could vote for him (not that I’m sure they would).

Whitmer seems to be still in the running. She flew to mert with Biden.
