“As you are aware, international and domestic activists have increased their efforts to introduce graphic sex education curricula, sexual orientation and gender identity ideology, and promotion of abortion in public schools. Last year, the House of Representatives passed the Equality Act, which could pave the way for the imposition of similar curriculum at the national level—forcing its implementation in every state. Senate Democrats have sought to introduce the Equality Act and Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden has said it is his #1 legislative priority”. ..... quotes from local newsletter.

***I dont know how the local Repub group decides to sidestep current immediate problems. They never address the current unless poo pooing testing, following covid exposure, forum for questionable covid medical advice. Now it is sex education for kids their rally newsletter meeting.

They remain deathly afraid of naked people enjoying themselves. I’m telling you, this is a national self-esteem issue.

Deflect, deflect, deflect. Good luck with that.

Republicans like Big Government off their backs except, of course, in the bedroom.

Sam, agreed, but it’s still worth a response.

Wikipedia:

Quote

The Equality Act seeks to incorporate protections against LGBT discrimination into the federal Civil Rights law. Specifically, it prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in a wide variety of areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, and credit.

Yes, education is in there: it means you can’t fire an otherwise good teacher simply for what he/she does in their bedroom on their own time. The law is currently kind of in limbo, since the Supremes have recently held that the existing Civil Rights Act protects sexual orientation and gender identity in matters of employment (although not specifically other things, like renting apartments, etc).

They were only recognizing overwhelming public opinion:

Quote

A poll conducted by Quinnipiac University in April 2019 found that 92% of American voters believed that employers should not be allowed to fire someone based on their sexual orientation or sexual identity, while only 6% believed that employers should be allowed to do so.

When you can’t argue against common-sense, widely popular sentiment like that, you have to make something up. They did it before, successfully (so far) with the ERA; here they make up things that aren’t in the law at all, nor would even be reasonably seen to facilitated by the law. There is literally nothing in this proposed law about school curriculum.

Regarding “promotion of abortion” (the Republican well that never runs dry), if all this crazy modern stuff like equality is promoting abortion, why have abortion rates (and teen pregnancy rates, to boot) done this since Reagan/Bush I left office)?

(...and yes, it continued to go down after 2010.)

When you have an indefensible out-of-control incumbent, you’ve got to make up some BS to make your voters fear a experienced centrist even more...

There's always the view expressed by Speaker Ryan: White women need to have more babies to keep out the immigrants!

Overall the rates have been going down in the US, but they like to point to areas where rates of teen pregnancy are up and imply that is happening everywhere. All too often those are connected to "abstinence only" sex ed and promotion of purity rings and the like.

Sam, agreed, but it’s still worth a response. Yes I agree, (Pdq) but not at this time to ignore what is going on around you

And make this the primary program. All news that affects us is worth noting but not to the exclusion of right now.
