Why did he agree to an interview with WaPo journalist?

Bob Woodward is from WaPo as far as I understand, and he considers WaPo the enemy (along with most media). He knew this could not turn out well, and he even told Woodward that he lied about the severity of the pandemic.

It puzzles me why he told Woodward all this stuff.

Woodward is famous.

Trump wants to be validated by being interviewed by famous people.

All Woodward had to do was appeal in some way to his vanity.

Yep. And TOLD Trump he was writing (another) book about him, which to a narcissist is catnip. This wasn’t Woodward’s responsibility to presage every conversation with, “You do realize I’m an author and I publish things, right?”

Trump called him many times, initiating the dialog, sometimes at night. He has no sense of future impact, only of the “now.”

Remember when Woodward and Bernstein brought Nixon down ? With FAR LESS impeachable crimes than Trump has not only admitted to, but been proud of committing ?

Vote OUT the Republicans. They have aided and abetted a criminal enterprise and foreign control of our federal government. They've ALL gotta go. Down to the lowest level of government, including the damn dogcatchers.

When Woodward wrote "Fury" he asked to interview Trump and the handlers never let Trump know. Trump thought he would have come across better if he had been interviewed and chastised those who said no. So when Woodward asked for this book, the handlers let Trump talk even though they knew better rather than feel the wrath. Trump even insisted on being recorded to be quoted correctly.

An old joke was words no CEO or politician ever wanted to hear -- "Mike Wallace from Sixty Minutes is here to see you." If you are in the White House, that sentiment would apply to Bob Woodward.

What Ombligo said. Plus I read yesterday that Kushner agreed and thought Trump could control things better.

Kushner for the win again! Just like solving Middle East peace.

Also, it really seems to be true that Trump feels that he can dominate any one on one situation.

I think that was likely his primary motivation here. In this case, I think he felt that he could schmooze Woodward into writing a positive story about him.
