Analysis: Trump relishes his role as a divider as he vows to be 'vicious'
Updated 10:49 AM EDT September 13, 2020 CNN

Taking the stage at a rally in Nevada Saturday night, President Donald Trump didn't hold back.
He said his anger about a recent Democratic ad that highlighted his alleged comments disparaging dead American soldiers had freed him to take his campaign to the next level: "Now I can be really vicious," he said to roars of approval from the crowd of Trump supporters in Minden.

The President, who has long relished his role as a divider who amasses power by creating a climate of fear, went on to describe his opponent, Joe Biden, as "shot" and a puppet of the radical left, before accusing Democrats of trying to "lock law-abiding Americans in their homes" during the pandemic as they fight God, guns and oil.

"At no time before has there been a clearer choice between two parties or two visions, two philosophies, two agendas for the future. There's never been anything like this," Trump said during the rally where he claimed he was "probably entitled" to a third term because he's been so poorly treated. "The Democrats are trying to rig this election, because it's the only way they're gonna win," he said.

Trump's divisive tactics this weekend immediately erased the fleeting moment of unity that came Friday as the nation marked the 19th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The no clearer choice statement is one of the few statements he’s said recently that isn’t a lie...

It’s helpful to remember that people attracted to demagoguery aren’t interested in politics. Just the trappings that come with it.

They don’t want to do the work and face decisions and consequences. They only want you to give them everything. Radical right = radical left: It’s the ultimate socialistic, welfare society.

See the thread above about projection.

Also, Trump can keep yapping the way he did at that rally because it's not going to bring him any new voters.

Oh, and today's NYT headline on how Biden can lose the raise - it's quite terrible clickbait. The BBC has been reporting on this exact question for months, 538 and others have run pre and post convention polling on the topic of 'law and order', and now the NYT is saying 'you might want to think about this if you are a Biden supporter'.

Ugh. I sure hope there are no 'but his emails!' headlines ahead. The NYT KNOWS The Orange Emperor like no other news site, but they are terrible falling for his trolling.

Well, of course Trump could still win, but only if voters for Biden (or against Trump) give in to despair and don't vote.

And I don't see any reason for despair. Five thirty eight got the result wrong last time, but they were just barely off, the race was much closer then, and they didn't capture the disastrous and boneheaded Comes announcement in the race's closing days.

In any case, 538 thinks that Biden's margin is increasing, not decreasing:

If we vote, we win.

The greater concern is how the Trump Kool-aid drinkers will respond when their hero loses, after he's told them the only way he can is if the election is rigged.
