Although, I might have to walk around 'heavy' to wear it.

Yep. We could do a similar T-shirt of Jesus welcoming pro-war Christians saying "What part of 'Thou shalt not kill' didn't you understand?"

Well, what's the fun in that?
The risk of beheading makes mine much more dangerous and satisfying.

Is that the cartoon that they are getting so worked up about?

These knuckleheads really need to lighten up. No wonder there hasn't been peace in that region for over 2000 years. Maybe they need to have a choice of which hand to wipe their butts with.

Islam prohibits depictions of Mohammed to prevent idolatry. The drawing showed their most revered prophet as wearing a bomb on his head.
[tvnz.co.nz]

Imagine how many Christians would be outraged by a cartoon of Jesus fscking a little boy and saying "Let the little children come to me" as a statement against pedophilic priests.

Religion often is based on emotion by people who've given up looking for truth and settled for their particular society's standard.

Boo-frickin'-hoo.

So, let's see. I know what we'll do!
We'll THREATEN to BOMB the person that drew this.
That'll teach 'em to depict us as bloodthirsty savages.

Gimme a pen and paper, I'll get to work on that.
Unfortunately, I have no artistic talent at all.
None.
So you'll have to suspend disbelief that what I actually draw looks like what I say it does.

I agree.

I'm sure there is PLENTY of anti-Christian and anti-Jesus stuff available with a simple Google search.

Ever seen the video for the Jesus Action Figure?

The drawing suggests that all Muslims are violent suicide bombers. It's a piece of hatemongering. If Al Jazeera showed a cartoon of Jesus sodomizing a little boy you can bet Pat Robertson would have his followers in a rabid froth. Why can't we all just be a little more sensitive to & tolerant of others beliefs. Why provoke a fight?

I think bad taste, offensive humor and speech are a universal prerogative. I believe everyone has the right to be an idiot. Besides, have you ever seen Saudi newspaper?

No.
You have missed the point COMPLETELY.
The drawing shows SOME suicide bombers (we all agree they exist -- or did before they blew themselves up).
It mocks the ridiculous belief of those suicide bombers that blowing themselves up in the name of Allah will get them the 72 virgins in Heaven.

I'm sure he would. He would probably call for the death of some such editor or someone.
And then I would be the first one (maybe) posting here that HE'S A FRIGGIN" WACK JOB.

> Why can't we all just be a little more sensitive to & tolerant

The cartoons are not the issue.
I neither support nor condemn them (although I do have my favorites).
It's the reaction to the cartoons I have a problem with: death threats, severing diplomatic ties.
I am in PASSIONATE defense of the right to FREE EXPRESSION throughout the world.
Whether that free expression is something that offends Muslims or Christians or Wiccans or whomever is an issue they need to deal with themselves, as they see fit, as long as it does not encroach on another's liberty or their very life.

>>Islam prohibits depictions of Mohammed to prevent idolatry. The drawing showed their most revered prophet as wearing a bomb on his head.<<

I'd be curious to learn how Islam reconciles the desire to prevent idolatry with the worship of a PROPHET?

>>If Al Jazeera showed a cartoon of Jesus sodomizing a little boy you can bet Pat Robertson would have his followers in a rabid froth.<<

That analogy isn't very apt. Showing a prophet with a bomb on his head is more akin to showing Jesus with a rifle, not commiting acts against children. Those cartoons really aren't inciteful - it's just that the people whose reactions are headlining the news are religious fanatics - zealots that are so far beyond critical thinking and reasoning that they will tolerate no deviation from their extremist views, calling for the rolling of heads because they see someone made a joke about them. A joke about Christ would be ill-received here as well, but I don't think there would be riots or cries for murder. These people are just crazy.

Yes, I have, and I didn't understand a single gliph of it. smiling smiley

I'd wager one could find more muslim anti-war peaceniks in the Persian Gulf than christian anti-war peaceniks here in the States.
Would one judge this entire forum by the few radicals in the Mud-slinging room ?

Too bad Islam doesn't prohibit depictions of innocent female journalists being held at gunpoint. Or male journalists being beheaded. Or bombers deliberately blowing up 13 yo children at a birthday party.

Like the way the U.S. media prohibits pic's of amputee soldiers or the results of our use of depleted uranium, or of children blown apart by U.S. bombs? Or like the way we still haven't seen all the pics of depravity and murder at Abu Ghraib? Yeah, ignorance is bliss.

Look psycho, I know that scoutmaster really screwed you, but we dont' TARGET CHILDREN and they do. AND THAT IS A VERY FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE. Also, the injuries to those soldiers were a result of your boys suicide bombings and cowardly tactics.

When we use illegal indiscriminate weapons, such as depleted uranium, phosphorous, cluster-bombs, and 500#'rs on civilian areas we obviously don't give a rat's pitooey about innocent lives. That makes us no better than Hamas.

If their supposed brave freedom fighters weren't a bunch of cowards and didn't hide behind civilian women and children maybe we wouldn't wind up killing any civilians at all. Have you ever noticed how we keep our millitary in established bases? There are many reasons for this but one of them is to protect civilians by seperating the millitary from them. These cowards instead hide behind women, children, mosques, hospitals and schools. If you love them so much, why don't you move over there.

Like the militia that confronted the military might of the British empire in their American colonies, the Iraqi civlian resistance has no base to retreat to other than their homes. It is more cowardly to fly over and drop a bomb on someone than to strap a bomb to yourself and detonate it. Both means cause innocent deaths and I'm not championing the suicide bombers, only saying that just because we have high-tech means of delivering our lethal blows doesn't make us any better.

Have you ever

Our bases are sequestered behind massive concrete barriers and protected by our air force, which keeps the perimeter under constant surveillance to prevent or reduce attacks on them. The Iraqi resistance has no such protection to withdraw behind.

These cowards instead hide

If you hate them so much why aren't you over there fighting them? I know a couple kids that would love to have you take their place.

most Christians wouldn't firebomb an embassy over a rude anti-Xian cartoon. some like Pat Robertson would say insane, hateful things, but most would not resort to violence.

The only purpose for publishing those drawings was to stoke the anger many Muslims feel over indignities suffered by their brethren in Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11, Al Qaeda, or stockpiles of WMD threatening the world. Tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims have been killed in this illegal preemptive war, and the Danes are part of it, having provided troops that are now accused of abusing prisoners themselves. This was sheer hate-baiting, and served no purpose whatsoever. People will suffer only so long before they rise up and strike back, and when they do the targets of their rage will often be the most convenient, not the most logical.

That's the same reason so many Americans supported the war on Iraq. They needed someone to strike back at, even if they were innocent bystanders. You see that in Iraq when an i.e.d. goes off near a convoy and the troops start shooting everyone in sight.

No, the purpose of the drawings was show the Muslims that the people of Europe and the rest of the free world value free expression over fear, intimidation and terroristic threats.

My only regret is that our media in the States demonstrate no such balls when given the opportunity.

That must be why Bush is having the FBI and Pentagon spying on peace groups and other opponents of his illegal war.

The media owned by the same corporations profiting from the war? What are you? Some kind of anti-free enterprise commie?

It's a 3 year old Yale blog (April, 2003) why is it relevant to this thread?

The Yale sophomore detailed how "free expression" was brutally suppressed at her school, putting the lie to the above statement.
