Wal-Mart to hire 150,000 Chinese

Wal-Mart plans to hire an extra 150,000 staff in China over
the next five years as it boosts its presence in the
fast-growing retail market. The US firm - the world's largest
retailer - currently has 56 stores in China and plans to open
a further 20 over the next year. Regulations
introduced in 2004 have made it easier for foreign retailers
to open new stores, but China's size and regional diversity
pose particular problems for foreign operators.

All those poor Chinese will have to go on Medicaid now
that they are Wal-Mart employees, I think that's a
requirment in the employee handbook somewhere.

Well now, if the so-called foreign "guest worker" bill now
pending in Congress passes and becomes law, and Wal-Mart had
150,000 trained Chinese employees, who are "willing" to come
here and work for minimum wage, what will happen to a lot of
current American Wal-Mart employees?

Uh, wassamatta?
Reading comprehension low?

They're opening more stores in China, not bringing Chinese workers here to work in existing stores.

Wal-Mart already had a huge number of trained Mexican
employees, and it is pretty clear that a large number
of them would be "willing" to come here, and work, if
they can earn more then in Mexico.

Don't think such a thing can happen? remember Wal-Mart's
way of doing business is to keep it's costs and prices as
low as possible, and that includes labor costs.

In a striking twist of irony, millions of Chinese will complain that they can only find

"Made in the USA" products on the shelves of their Wal-Marts.

Wal-Mart forces it's suppliers to move their manufacturing
from the US to China, or else it replaces them. Perhaps
Wal-Mart ought to move it's headquarters from Benton,
Arkansas to Beijing, so it can enjoy all the benefits of
Chinese society.
