"President Bush must fully disclose his participation in the selective leaking of classified information," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid in a brief statement. "It's time for the President to come clean about his involvement in the leak case."

If the President declassifies it, it ain't a leak. He did so to counter the lies promulgated by the execrable Joe Wilson.

Yeah, technically that's true but it doesn't circumvent the sleazyness of the tactic he and Cheney used.

If they wanted to release the info to support their position to go to war, they could have just told us about it themselves instead of using the backdoor through the Times.

Why stay silent about it and then issue the statements about what he'd do if he finds the leaker?

No MrLynn, the ratio is simply three to one.

You just happen to represent the one.

BTW - Commentary Magazine???

BTW - Three-to-one is also the ratio of Americans that believe the current president knowingly manipulated intelligence to start this war.

It's probably even more lopsided now.

Not really. Since when does "calling a spade a spade" make one a liberal, leftist, or a moonbat? If it was good enough to be applied to Slick Willy, why isn't it good enough for this knucklehead?

Regarding the admin's spin on this, the old expression comes to my mind:" If it smells like bullsh*t and looks like bullsh*t, it's probably..."

Why do conservatives blindly follow these sleazeballs?

Powerline is a conservative blog. The reasoned analyses and commentary of its three contributors are arguably more objective than the 'news' contained in MSM sources like the NY Times.

therawstory, linked by incognegro, is a left-wing tabloid 'news' site.

mick e will concede that The Raw Story *is* a left-leaning counterpoint to the right-leang sources that you linked to, MrLynn.

The difference is that the story that incog linked to is basically a presentation of the democratic response to these latest revelations. The article itself is not an editorial.

JoeM nailed it.

if it were Clinton or Kerry in the White Haus, the neocon/rabid right would be in an uproar over the lies, and be bleating for impeachment.

but it's A-OK when it's their stooge. fsckin' hypocrites!

A.D.D.-suffering Bush graduated from Yale with a "gentleman's C" only because his dad was a wealthy alumnus. His cocaine-addled and alcohol-pickled brain probably doesn't know when he's telling the truth. He says what his handlers tell him to say, or what he can read off a tele-prompter.

However, when the Niger-yellowcake story, which had long been discredited, made it into Bush's SOTU, Condi excused it saying "in three months everyone in the administration had simply forgotten it wasn't true." Bush's forgetting this I can understand, but she has a PhD which I have no reason to believe wasn't earned through actual academic study, which would require a memory longer than three months.

Either she, and he, are both pathological liars (which is my conclusion) or they are, as Colon Bowel stated, all taking Ambien, which has amongst its many side effects, memory loss.

So, Mr. Lynn, which is it? Is this administration a bunch of drug addicts and hence absolved of responsiblity for mistatements, but consequently poor choices to direct the power of our nation, or are they pathological liars? If you have any other explanations for the above contradictions I look forward to reading them.

The Niger yellowcake story came from British intelligence, and they stand by it.

Saddam's representatives had been in Niger on a trade mission. They weren't interested in millet, which was the only other export from Niger.

As for the rest of your moonbat ravings, not worth responding to.

We spend more than any other nation on intelligence, yet we relied on British sources without confirming them? In fact the CIA sent Joe Wilson to Niger to confirm those rumors, which now turn out to have been fabricated in Italy with forged documents that were easily debunked as frauds by journalists with no hefty CIA assets to utilize. Tenet knew the documents were fraudulent, but played along with Bush, then took the fall in exchange for a handsome retirement.

Joe Wilson was a former ambassador to Niger, so he knew the people to talk to there. That's why Valerie's superiors chose him to make the inquiries. He came back, submitting his report to the CIA that it would have been impossible for Saddam to have purchased yellowcake in Niger. That report was forwarded up the line to the White House, and Condi admitted they knew three months in advance of the SOTU that the story was false. Yet it was repeated in the SOTU and NONE of those presumably knowledgeable, security-clearanced individuals spotted the error?

> As for the rest of your moonbat ravings, not worth

Just answer one:

How does a PhD forget that a statement essential to her boss's case for war was false in three months? At best she is grossly incompetent and would have been fired had she been employed privately rather than with your tax dollars. Wouldn't you fire an employee that couldn't remember the essential truth of vital information for more than three months?

No, it's not fair. It's not fair to take the nation to war on the basis of lies, which they admit they knew were lies, yet try to excuse as a simple failure of memory over three months. This was a criminal conspiracy.

"The White House on Friday declined to challenge assertions that President Bush authorized the leaks of intelligence information to counter administration critics on Iraq."
[news.yahoo.com]

So Bush admits he authorized leaks of classified info to silence Wilson or make an example of him to anyone else who might challenge the administrations lies for war? If you expose our lies we'll expose your wife as a CIA agent, thereby endangering her life and destroying a deep-cover CIA operation intended to root out info about foreign threats to our nation.

How much abuse of power is too much for those who still support him? Forget impeachment trials. This is high treason.

Well close but they imported me from AppleSwitcher which shows they have absolutely no taste or sense of refinement.

You seem a bit frayed at the edges Mr. Lynn maybe even frazzled, not the image I remember. It must be difficult being one of the last in the increasingly empty trenches; still loyalty is its own reward.

You've had a good run and now control all phases of government and still can't make anything work, but maybe that was the (Grover Norquist) point all along.

Maybe its over for government haters but the changes you've wrought will be with us for a long time.

The next administration (whichever party) will need to deal with the clean up, unless the neocon foreign policy blunders lead to some godforsaken exchange of nukes; the only circumstance imaginable that might make Katrina seem like a success.

Seeming to be seems to be this administrations real strength.

No, Roger, just chronically short of time. The links I provided make the case as well or better than I could. Then, too, I learned over on DM, before they banned political discussion, that there was no point in arguing with the likes of Refurbvirgin (whatever his name was over there). There are none so blind, and none so deaf, none so deluded. . .

Anyway, it was 50º today with a clear, sunny sky, so my wife and I took a walk in the woods. I was glad to be in the US of A, and glad that despite all the calumny, lies, negativism, and defeatism of their opponents, that in these parlous times we have folks of integrity and vision in charge—for at least three more years.

These would be the same folks that told us they knew where the WMD were?

The same folks that said Saddam had reconstituted nuclear weapons, and could launch a chem-bio attack on us and our allies on 45 minutes warning?

The same folks that told us Iraq was an imminent threat and that it had ties to Al Qaeda?

The same folks that rolled their fearmongering into the public consciousness so that even today their are many that still believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11?

Those folks have no integrity, and the current revelations that Bush authorized outing a NOC CIA agent to get back at her husband for having revealed Bush's lies about Iraq buying yellowcake from Niger are the icing on the cake, for all but the blindest of GOP partisans, such as yourself.

Bush has been sloshing around in innocent blood for three years and in your defense of him you become complicit and step into the vat of grisly corpses he tramples out his vintage of violence. Those who, at this point in the game, still defend him are accomplices to mass murder and war crimes, as we told the German people they had a responsibility to stand up and stop their government when it acted illegally. We called preemptive war, when the Germans practiced it, the "supreme crime, because it encompassed all the others."

Shame!

The forged-contract story is well known, mick. The Times article isn't clear about the earlier letter.

It is true, in any case, that Wilson knew that Iraqis had been in Niger a couple of years earlier, and didn't mention it. Do you suppose they were just tourists?

The truth about Saddam's WMD has been coming out in dribs and drabs for quite a while, now. It's just being ignored by the MSM, which supports the Democrats. The nuclear program was moved to Libya, along with Iraqi technicians (where do you suppose Khadafy got the wherewithal to build bombs?). The chemical and biological stuff was shipped out of Iraq prior to the resumption of hostilities in 2003.

Moreover, recently translated documents from the huge stash of unread material now stored in Qatar (I think) shows that Saddam was dealing with Al Qaeda and recruiting terrorists. See here:

and here for an intriguing speculation:

"However, when the Niger-yellowcake story, which had long been discredited, made it into Bush's SOTU, Condi excused it saying 'in three months everyone in the administration had simply forgotten it wasn't true.'"

Lovely. She's really compiling a nice catalog of quotes, along with:

"No one could have imagined them taking a plane, slamming it into the Pentagon" -- I'm paraphrasing now -- "into the World Trade Center, using planes as a missile." - Condi Rice

“I don’t know anyone who wasn’t caught off guard by Hamas’s strong showing,” “Some say that Hamas itself was caught off guard by its strong showing.” - Condi Rice
