She probably doesn't. But in Obama's case, it's because he's, you know, lazy.

...and we all know why that is...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Does anyone whining that we were promised "change" and didn't get it really think we have the same administration as the Bush/Cheney white house?

I'm with you on that, honestly. I also don't believe that one year is long enough to really "change" anything.

But I just think that the health care reform legislation went awry and gave Obama's enemies the idea that he was vulnerable. I would have preferred to see him kick some butt. Especially some Democratic butt.

Dunno. He's a pretty shrewd strategist and he's also pretty good at having his finger on the pulse of public opinion; I'm not convinced he didn't choose health care as a "safe" distraction* in order to remove some of the dangerous scrutiny of the financial mess.

*example of "unsafe" distraction: "the immigration debate", which the Bush administration didn't care about but kicked up every time the media started buzzing about their illegal actions-- accidental monster.

The same could be said about the health care thing to divert the public attention away from Iraq, Guantanamo and Afghanistan.

Then there's the inattention to the GLBT promises.

But to say that the economy has "normalized"??? That's a bit of a stretch (and I'm being generous).

Sure, if you were trying to make a completely different point.

Not sure who expected Obama to be a champion of gay rights, but he's said he's dealing with that "next"- I guess it's either "tackle everything in your first 10 months in office" or "failure?"

You'd have to have read the previous comments in this thread to understand that as intended.

Why wait ten months? I have already declared the new governors of NJ & VA failures.

The problem with the Distraction Theory is that health care reform was a major plank, if not THE major plank, of the Obama platform.

Whether he's "personally involved" or not, the buck stops at Obama. He appointed the "denizens" in the White House, their actions are his responsibility and he must be held accountable.

I would not attribute Obama with lazyness, just incompetence.

The solution to the problem is to find a solution to the problem.

Swampy, whether Obama is responsible for what happens has nothing to do with your original statement. Your original point was that Obama couldn't/wouldn't "do the work" and now you are trying to say he has to take responsibility for what he supposedly couldn't/didn't do.

You are drifting all over the place like an unmoored boat.

Obama's mistakes were letting Congress screw around writing the legislation and then not using the nuclear option to shove a White House crafted bill through. All this effort to make Congress feel like part of the process and not tick some people off has resulted in ticking EVERYbody off.

What??? No way is Obama gonna do the work. First off, I don't think he would know where to begin.

"I would not attribute Obama with lazyness(sic), just incompetence.'

This coming from a supporter of the worst administration in history.

It will take ten terms to clean up the mess he left.

And you think Obama can clean it up? From his abysmal start it looks like he will only be making matters worse.

Sure, but he made a decision to tackle things in a particular order, and could have spent the last 9 months giving weekly press conferences about finance industry reform instead.

Umm, should't jobs have been on top of that "order". Nobody is asking for healthcare reform just NOW.

Will Obama be in office for 40 years?

How do figure this is an abysmal start? The DOW is up 20% since he took office and is again above 10,000. The economy grew 3.5 percent annual rate last quarter. Unemployment is still dismal, but that is usually the last thing to recover. On a personal level, my 401k has recovered all the losses since the market bottomed out in March.

In your eyes, Obama is doing an abysmal job because that's what you want to believe. Or maybe you HOPE the economy continues to tank just to see Obama lose in 2012.
