I would have made the colors darken as the percentages increased, to make it easier to get a feeling for the proportions without having to look back and forth at the color key. As it is, I think a plain old list would have been as immediate and maybe more so. Just a thought; I know you didn't make the map.

On my monitor I can not tell what color Hawaii matches from the scale. But what is the percentage of the Hawaiian population that is white male?

No, this wasn't necessarily about racism. I would say, though, that "racism" has to be involved to some significant extent in explaining Mississippi and Alabama coming in at 5 to 9 percent.

How would you account for there being significantly higher percent of white men in the Northeast, upper Midwest and Pacific Coast who voted for Obama and the much lower percent of white men who voted for him in the South? Whatever the cause, white men are an extremely important demographic group in US politics, so accounting for the regional differences of that demographic seems to me to relevant to understanding the US political scene. But maybe understanding the US political scene doesn't have anything to do with what happens here.

Read what he said. He alleged that men living in states with low black populations will never realize what he realizes. How do you interpret that claim?

Without knowing what the historical trends for those states are in regard to white men who vote democratic (which I would assume to be low anyway) I couldn't say. And even then, it's only speculation.

First, where is the assertion that election results equals priding yourself in getting along with others coming from ? It seems no one but you.

Second, if I do buy your premise, I would have to say that the evidence you claim does not exist is clearly evident in the map posted by Ted King.

So you are saying if perfect lily white New England villages have interaction with black people, they will become intolerant and racists? That's what I read and understand. You seem to be the one who thinks all white communities are perfect and are so much better than anyone else. You assume alot.

Zounds - so you're assuming that they'll suddenly become intolerant? I read your original post as more or less saying "How can someone who has not experienced something claim to know what's it like to experience it?" e.g. a Windows zealot (who has never touched a Mac) proclaiming that Windows is vastly superior to Mac OS. There's a bit of a difference between pointing out that someone has NOT experienced something (and therefore has no grounds to claim first-hand experience with that something), to assuming that someone's opinion will fall a certain way once they experience the something.
