This type of PORK & misappropriation of stimulus $$$ pisses me off

"It was among the first in the country to win funding from this year's stimulus package: $800,000 to repave a backup runway. "

from his site, murtha.org:

"Today, our nation faces many challenges. Here at home, we must promote economic growth, strengthen America's infrastructure, improve access to health care, protect Social Security, and bring fiscal sanity back to the federal budget."

BTW, if you read the article, that airport is like a ghost town, with an average of 20 people going thru per day.

politicians like Murtha make me want to puke. people are losing their homes, but all that money, OUR MONEY, goes into a pet project that benefits very, very few people.

Very porky sounding--reminds me of Ted Stevens. Congressional and senatorial term-limits, anyone?

sick of Democrats AND Republicans taking OUR money and giving it to those who clearly don't need it.

same with Wall Street... big bonuses again, how's the economy doing? How's the bailout?

Murtha is just a gross example of what unfortunately happens all the time with politicians from both parties. In California, Darrell Steinberg recently tried to sneak a $10 million dollar earmark for a cultural tolerance center into the water bond bill. He probably figured that nobody would notice, but it was discovered, and he was called on it by both Democrats and Republicans. The really funny thing is that if he had simply sponsored a separate bill for his pet project, it likely would have passed in California.

Another airport with no passengers or traffic.

If you're a politician sending money to this boondoggle it's a hopping place. and they find statistics to back that up.
If you work there - well it's a great place to get some sleep.

If you build it, they will come.
Or maybe not.

But the same politicians don't call themselves on passing a toothless water bill.

We had this debate when Republicans were saying this or that is not really stimulus it is just capital spending. When pressed, Obama finally admitted that any spending is stimulus. Talk to him.

i'm pretty sure Obama has nothing to do with what Murtha has done for the past decade, Dakota.

Dakota only calls fouls in one direction, he doesn't understand or seem to care that it's a two way street and he's a part of the pavement.

part of the reason i posted this is i'm not playing Dem/Rep favorites - a crook is a crook.

if Bush Jr were a Democrat, i still would have criticized him exactly the same way - if not more.

Not a single member of Congress doesn't have "some" pork in their backyard. Some of it good, some of it bad. That's politics. Not excusing Murtha, but come on. Why start or stop with him?

You start with the low-hanging fruit, then you work your way up.

Eventually, any money that is spent by congress that doesn't directly benefit at least 80% of the populace will be pork.

What two way street? I am saying by the time the debate over stimulus ended, Democrats were arguing that any spending is stimulus. If you want to distort history you have to wait more than three months.

"Pork" is government spending when it applies to somewhere OUTSIDE of your home state. The same spending close to home is referred to as "economic stimulus."

During the glory days of the Contract With America, Newt Gingrich's CD in Georgia received more federal spending per capita than any CD in the nation.

'economic stimulus' should be warranted - that backup airstrip is not crucial by any stretch of a reasonable person's imagination.

i bet $800,000 would help a lot of people in other, more useful ways, instead of padding some paver's coffers.

i'd also like to see some Republicans & defenders of the conservative party call out some of THEIR offenders, if they are brave enough.

you know, like the very few who called Bush Jr out on his fiscal disaster of a Presidency. VERY few, as in old-school conservative, not knee-jerk neo-cons.

Old-school conservatives are now called RINOs.
