Okay, what's my next step in turning more liberal?
Posted by: SteveJobs

Now that I have shifted to a much more vegan diet, and a lot of it Organic, what's my next step?

I have already posted sympathy for the drug users this week, been enthralled with the green roof technology, and am learning Spanish.

I WILL have a hard time giving up religion, second amendment rights, and a strong defense.

But working withing those confines, what other baby steps ya got for me?

Must I listen to NPR? Drive a small car? Smoke weed? Dress in sandals? Or can I keep my AM talk radio, van, and casual leather shoes and SOCKS?

As long as you are going for stereotypical, you should "become" gay.

Oh, and don't forget your "I Hate Our Troops" magnet for your Prius.

So? You can want a strong defense and a strong military and still hate the troops.

Actually, I guess that is more of an elitist thing than a liberal thing. The wealthy love to espouse their undying love of the troops with magnets on their SUVs. They love the troops because they volunteered to serve while their kids are safe at home.

You know, I've never had a coffee. LOVE THE SMELL, though. Not coffee breath - it'll kill you.

Liberals are actually allowed to own guns, but better yet, just don't own a gun and hire armed body guards.

Go further Green. Start supporting a large increase in the gasoline tax with the proceeds to be spent on
a) alternate fuels research
b) mass transit

Hey, you're right - I AM for alternative fuels research. Especially when it might help USA's farmers.

Mass transit - I've lived in a large urban area before and could not bring myself to use mass transit. I could never take the school bus, either. And my son actually had a bad experience on one last week; had to get officials involved. And in certain areas it would be labeled a hate crime. Not sure where it will go, here, though. Perhaps a more Euro-like mass transit would be good. But around here the bus stuff is scary/dirty.

I grew up in NYC, and rode the subways (without parents) from about age 14 on. Rarely had any problems.

I also expect that if mass transit becomes more necessary and acceptable to higher income brackets, it will get cleaned up - a self-reinforcing cycle.

Note that we need both mass transit and rapid transit. It does little good if the bus/train/trolley takes longer than the drive.

The ONLY thing you need to do is stop listening to/watching propaganda (e.g. am talk radio) and trying to find sources that have some grounding in reality.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

i don't drink latte, but i like sushi. if only it was more affordable. at least it's made fresh in the USA, and can't be imported from China! smiling smiley

the liberal side of religious teaching is what appeals to me; it's the bureaucratic/control/intolerant side i have issues with. i'm surprised that since the essence of Christian faith is "GOD IS LOVE," how much hatred exists in that camp.

the liberal side is the humanist side - caring about people as individuals with feelings, not as skin color or statistics.

i think people who fear gays should get to know some, or get to know more of them. they vary in personality as much as straights. they also have very similar hopes/fears, in terms of human life and growing old with someone they love.

so i guess my point is liberalism isn't bad.

i'd like to see more conservative budgeting done by our elected officials, both R and D. let's make America strong again!

dave - I'm listening to YOU. Ain't that enough?
I listen to comedic drive-time shows, the majority of the time. They have news items (of the weird) on there. Is that sufficient? smiling smiley

Try attending a traditional liberal event and stand in silence protesting a war and being spit upon by passers-by.

You have to "experience it".

Do NOT get mugged. Or go mug someone else. It's the only way I can explain the line "A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged."

psst, h e r e...

Strength without compassion is brutality. Compassion without strength is weakness.

We must train our minds to desire what the situation demands.
