The "Mac mini w/optical" thread below...

...got me wondering-- what does the lack of an internal optical drive get you in the i5 mini?

Could you add an SSD alá the mini-server?

I didn't know if any additional brackets or cable/harness would be needed, though.

An i5 mini-refurb could be on the list next year, after Apple announces all their new iron for this year.

Does this mean the i5 models have cabling (and space) inside for a second hard disk?

Otherwise, there isn't another mounting bracket that I'm aware of (it honestly appears that apple is using the SATA cables to keep the drives in place).

SSDs often weigh less, so they tend to not be thrown around too much even when only loosely mounted.

That and the lack of rotating platters means no vibration or torque involved, so an SSD could just lie on top of the OEM drive.
