DirecTV to subscribers: No Viacom channels for you! / Viacom to Internet: No Viacom for you!

[arstechnica.com]

1) Viacom wants more money from DirecTV.

2) DirecTV drops Viacom: Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, BET, VH1, CMT, Logo, Spike, TV Land, MTV2, VH1 Classic, Palladia, Nick Jr., NickToons, TeenNick, Nickelodeon West, Tr3s, Centric, MTV India, Nickelodeon HD, Comedy Central HD, MTV HD, BET HD, VH1 HD, CMT HD and Spike HD

3) Viacom responds by pulling The Daily Show offline. You know, so that DirecTV subscribers can't get it "regardless?"

I guess MTV India or Logo (do they have online content?) just wouldn't have had the same impact.

They've also pulled it off the "air", the Daily Show has been on vacation last week and this week, and Comedy Central isn't even showing re-runs at 11pm this week, just other programming (eg Southpark, Tosh.0).

This might have more impact when there is actually some new content.

My understanding is Viacom pulled the programming from DirecTV until a new rate structure is agreed upon. DirecTV would still be running the channels if given the choice (just not paying more than they do currently )

Personally I watch very little of a few of those channel and can get by just fine without them. Will I miss The Daily Show - a little bit but it isn't worth paying any more than I already do.

I wouldn't miss those channels. I have Dish & the only one I watch, off that list, is Spike, on occasion.

Just another business dispute, Time Warner the NFL and MLB went through the same thing. A money settlement will salve all wounds.

Another reason it would be potentially great if Apple would step in and "fix" a broken system. I'm not talking of a new tv but a new service that simplifies the process of paying for and seeing what one really wants to. One of the few channels I watch regularly is Comedy Central due to stuff like The Daily Show & Colbert and because of this dispute, it's not airing for me.
