I must admit that I have not read this yet (I've saved it to my Pocket), but it does look like an interesting read:

That's a very interesting story.

It's amazing how a business leader can be so blind and dumb about two really basic issues: ease of use and a 60% price increase. Amazing...

I am 100% sure there is more to the story. This was not just dumb decisions.

Netflix still works for me and I'm paying exactly the same as I was before. I never used the discs, so I don't miss them not being there.

I never used the Watch Now, so I got an extra disk for the same money I was spending.

I reinstated one disc plan with streaming this month after a break of about a year. My son uses the streaming all of the time and Red Box has not proven to be cost effective as an alternative for DVDs. Most Red Box rentals ended up costing $2-3 due to a busy lifestyle. So another $8 bucks a month for DVDs by mail just doesn't seem like too much anymore.

Hey on a related subject, is it no longer possible to put your account on "vacation hold"?

I too am convinced that there was more to this stupidity *cough*studio content licensing*cough* than just plain stupidity, but Netflix went about it in completely the wrong way. Put the egg on Paramount, MGM, Sony, Time Warner, et cetera.

Seems no more "hold" for accounts. You need to cancel it, and then re-activate later if you so desire.

We put ours on hold last year when the price increase hit. it re-activated earlier this year, and we used it for a couple months, but came to the conclusion it wasn't worth the money, so cancelled it for good a couple months back.
