Annoying Mountain Lion Finder Bug

You may or may not have seen this bug, but doing a Google search turned up a lot of fellow sufferers.

The problem is when you launch an app, it doesn't appear in Dock.

The short term solution is to launch the terminal and type in "killall Dock".

Unfortunately, I have to do this every time I restart. Last night, I left the Mac Mini running overnight. Just woke it from sleep and the Finder had crashed and sure enough, no app that is launched shows up.

This is the freaking Finder. The heart and soul of the Mac and Apple screws it up royally.

And don't get me started on the bizarre implementation of Save As.

Do a Safe boot then a normal reboot.

Mr. Curmudgeon, on Mountain Lion.

In the next Mac OS you'll need terminal to do anything.

Do a Safe boot then a normal reboot.

Then get a witch doctor to do a dance for your Mac.

I have an issue where my server drive icon sometimes doesn't show up on the desktop. It's mounted but I have to unmount it and remount to get it to show up. More of an annoyance.

Have you rebuilt the desktop?

theres obviously something corrupt about your install. have you tried running disk utility?

if you continue to have this problem and can't fix it i'd do a fresh install.

in other words -

Its not a Mountain Lion problem.

interesting how you insist that Lion was good and now ML is also good, when all these people have problems and broke workflows, many apps became incompatible. There are reports that battery life sucks in ML. I haven't upgraded yet, I wait for all bugs to be worked out

While you're at it, zap the PRAM, rebuild the desktop, and check your scsi termination.

That's a lot of pesto.

people had problems before too. the difference is

"help! i think my computer is broken!"

vs.

"help! OS X > 10.6 sucks!"

what about USB hubs? some don't work under ML.

A USB hub was the last thing in the world I expected to become inoperable with an OS update.

1. The Dock is not the Finder. The Finder is very screwed up in Lion and Mountain Lion, but that specific problem relates to the Dock.

2. I have noticed that several of my Apple apps needed their .plist files trashed before they'd work properly after installing Mountain Lion. Among those problem-apps was the Dock.

I suggest that you trash the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist file and re-do your Dock icons.

In the next Mac OS, you won't have a Mac anymore ... just a Mac-like handheld. tongue sticking out smiley

Pretty much every post you make regarding OS X or Macs in general reflects some stupefyingly dire situation that either doesn't exist for most others or simply blows it all out of proportion.

So when's your new PC arrive? We want you happy -- really. Or at least get some more fiber in your diet.
