Is that like, an annual thing?

Those things are HUGE!

Should require a special license, may be a pilots license?

(Look at the size of the mirror!)

The driver in that graphic looks like he's got burst capillaries all over his face.

That would be from all the drinking.

RIP, Greg the DogSitter. You are missed.

OK, a bus was involved in an accident. What are we supposed to debate here? That low cost bus services are more prone to hit 76 year old pedestrians with their mirrors?

When we ban busses only criminals will have them.

Some of the crashes around here ( not megabus, but busses public and private ) have ben found to have been caused by drivers working too many hours, sleep and rest deprived .

As someone who spent a part of his life driving buses (mainly MCI8, MCI9, MCI102A3 and the occasional Prevost - Greyhound type), I understand the difficulties of driving them in urban areas and the stresses involved. It's a difficult job that's made even scarier with the fact that you may actually run someone over and never knew it happened.

In my experience with Megabus, I've found the drivers to be cranky and irritable (to the point of berating any passenger who tried to communicate with them) more often than not. Could just be a personality thing, though . . .

Somebody should learn economics from these new discount bus companies. How they can charge $10 from Philly to New York City and still make a profit is amazing. And don't tell me they are skimping on safety. That can't be it.

Yikes. Pedestrians are prey, especially in highly congested cities. It's sad that this happened, but I'm sure it's not a unique occurrence.. pedestrians probably get picked off by trucks, taxis, cars, etc... on a regular basis. And I say this as someone whose father was killed in a pedestrian vs. vehicle accident (he was the pedestrian).

I recall discussion that NYC doesn't properly investigate pedestrian vs. vehicle accidents, despite what "CSI" type shows would have you believe.

NYC does not do squat in fatal motor vehicle accidents involving cyclists: no matter who is at fault, it's assumed that the cyclist is to blame and no investigation, let alone prosecution, occurs. They do a bit more when the person killed is a pedestrian.

Those Megabuses pick up passengers on 7th and 28th, and really foul things up for anyone trying to get a city bus at that stop. I'd like to see them restricted to less busy areas. And I would not ride any of the cheapo bus lines after what's happened here recently.

I spent the better part of an hour looking over some data maps published online by someone studying traffic crashes involving cyclists in the SF Bay area and found an 'interesting' pattern...
In about 50% of cases where the cyclist lived, the cyclist was found to be at fault. In pretty close to 100% cases where the cyclist was killed, the cyclist was found to be at fault.

I don't know if there are any luxury bus lines as they have in Mexico.

There has been some news coverage this year about the fact that NYPD will not properly investigate accidents in which a cyclist is killed. Don't know if the news stories have done any good, though.
