I saw that. That was ... AMAZING. The kid is luck he was wearing such a nice warm and fluffy outfit, or he would have significant talon lacerations.

Also lucky the bird didn't gain more altitude before dropping it.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands...
- For example, if they are wrapped around your throat she's probably slightly upset.

Wow. Birds are fearless. I was attacked by a much smaller bird once. The idea that birds are at risk from house cats is just plain silly. It's the cats that have to be careful.

That would be scary. Lucky that human babies are much fatter than the eagle expected.

My cat flinches and runs for the bushes whenever the geese fly honking overhead.

I think it's fake.

The bird does not look like a golden eagle, for starters.

I live in eagle country and I've seen them fish and grab squirrels in a park, but get that close to humans and grab a child?

Eh.

Run ait thru Photoshop. I think you would have to go to some expense to fake a movie. But I'm no movie techie but IMO.

If it is a faked video, it won't be the first time.

I hadn't seen that this was supposed to be in Montreal. No way would I believe a golden eagle would be there, doing that, and for that not to be on the news.

"Analysis by the Global News team suggests that while the video has been carefully constructed, it is a fake.

First: Montreal police confirmed on Wednesday morning that there have been no reports of such an incident, nor has a baby-snatching bird ever been reported by the local media.

Second: The video was shot when there was no snow - and there's plenty of it now. Surely if this had taken place weeks ago, someone would have heard of it?

Third: This the only video uploaded by 'MrNuclearCat' - and this person has not responded to any of the (numerous) media requests posted in the comments section.

Fourth: If you look at the shadows of the trees (especially those far from the dramatic scene of the bird and toddler), you'll see that they are at different angles."

Looks real to me... shadows look fine to me, but I'm no expert.

I've seen a hawk trying to get a dying salmon out of the water. It was WAY too big, but it kept trying. And I have a PCT video that shows a hawk repeatedly attacking people that came near the tree where it's nest rested.

The only problem with the video that I have it that I find it hard to believe that the bird would grab a child by the shoulders. That's what a bird with a human brain would do, but I'm pretty sure that a bird would grab the head.

Birders aren't having much nice to say about this:

"The Black Swamp Bird Observatory, an NGO based in Ohio, has posted its damning verdict, echoing the view that it was a falconer's bird:

The golden eagle is a scarce visitor in the Montreal area, but the bird in the video is not a golden eagle, nor anything else that occurs in the wild in north America. This was clearly a setup: using a falconer's bird, and probably a fake toddler for the distant scene. With all the ignorance about nature that's out there already, the last thing we need is this kind of stupid garbage."

The “Golden Eagle Snatches Kid” video, uploaded to YouTube on the evening of December 18, was made by Normand Archambault, Loïc Mireault and Félix Marquis-Poulin, students at Centre @#$%&, in the production simulation workshop class of the Bachelors degree in 3D Animation and Digital Design.
...
The production simulation workshop class, offered in fifth semester, aims to produce creative projects according to industry production and quality standards while developing team work skills. Hoaxes produced in this class have already garnered attention, amongst others a video of a penguin having escaped the Montreal Biodôme.

Eagles in Alaska take small dogs and cats all the time. Doesn't mean that video isn't faked though.

Fake, but certainly possible with a Golden Eagle.

How about getting grabbed by an orca?
