... and got a faster Internet-only plan. Before I had 20/5 (25/5 actual), with TV. Now I have their 50/25 plan which is really even faster than that:

I wonder if we could sustain a 30+ Mbit transfer from your computer to mine, or if these numbers are only good from local servers.

Just want to let you know that I hate you all.

To get 5MBps up around here you need Comcast for $115/month or Comcast Business for $109/month.

25Mbps up is just not available.

What's the price comparison between slower Internet And TV bundle versus faster Internet only?

What is the point of the faster speed? Most servers prevent the download of anything faster because they want to preserve their own bandwidth. Are you really seeing a major improvement compared to before?

Multiple simultaneous HD streams, VOIP, and computers updating all at the same time? Just a guess.

Silvarios,

It's probably 10 or 15 down. Those seem to be the common speeds for basic cable modem based Internet service.

Wowzer,

I've got the same setup at home as Mike and standard cable modem based Internet service at my office. Everything from browsing the web to streaming video from services like Netflix and downloads (software updates, etc) is faster at home. The difference is tangible.

I was paying $114/mo for 25/5 and TV with an HD-DVR, but it only had a 160GB drive, and never worked very well IMO, so we hardly used it. Not worth paying for something you don't use.

Since we have Amazon Prime (playback on the jailbroken ATV2) and Hulu Plus now on the ATV as well (native) there is more than enough content. All on demand to, which is kind of like having the biggest DVR you could imagine.

Thanks for the info. Are you paying about the same $114 for just the faster Internet?

Ahh, I thought I had posted the new price already. It's just $80/mo for Internet-only. So now I'm paying less to get more of what I want.

I do some of that, but for me the biggest benefit will be when working from home. I do video editing and other multimedia stuff where I have had to upload several gigs from home; with the new plan uploads will be about 700% faster.

$80 is a bargain compared to the usual rate and speed of Internet in the USA. Interesting to note you upgraded primarily for the upload increase.
