I don't even know who our current SG is. He's probably the only one I could name. RIP.

I appreciate everything Dr. Koop did to bring about smoke-free public spaces, and to bring awareness about AIDS.

The current SG is Dr. Regina Benjamin.

I just learned today that Dr. Koop (working as a surgeon) saved the life of an old friend of mine when she was an infant. Small, but amazing world.

I remember Joycelyn Elders.

Her brother is a friend of mine. He had a drag racer during her term and said he was trying to get a condom company to sponsor him.

As in not heard of them good or bad. That must mean they are not doing their job nothing good or bad. Did the job turn into sinecure for politcal favor.

When you are simply doing your job, you won't be noticed. It's when you either screw-up or doing something out of the norm you get noticed as in "Joe Flacco was sacked five straight times in yesterday's loss to the Patriots. After the game his guards had this to say..."

A long life, and he helped millions, and saved many hundreds of thousands by pushing intelligent medical policies. Thank you, Dr. Koop. You will be remembered with great appreciation.

I remember him mostly because I had a Biology teacher in High School that looked JUST like him...
In fact, he related that while in Washington D.C. at some sort of teaching conference, people bought him lunch twice thinking that he was the Surgeon General...

Mr Braud (pronounced "Bro"), according to the grapevine, passed away a couple years ago.
Hell of a good Bio teacher. Hated the class, but remember him as an excellent teacher.

Dr. Koop was forever immortalized by Homer Simpson and the B-Sharps.
