Why not? Every other phone does. Either buy the phone w/ a CC that has extended warranty or buy the replacement plan. I have to assume Gen 1 iPhone buyers are not value customers anyway. Besides how quickly do you think the Gen 1 iPhone will become obsolete. My guess is the second the Gen 2 phone is out Gen 1 owners will be dumping on eBay. I would guess that would happen inside of a year.

Sure they'll do something about it...they'll send you a repair box. You'll have to pay for the repair. Would you rather have Apple set it up like they do Macs w/ only 90 days support, after which time they charge you to talk to a tech support person?

My car has a 4 year warranty, yet the payments last FIVE!!!

I think it's wrong for cellular companies to sell phones that aren't warrantied to you as long as you're committed to them.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Geez. Relax dude. It's a figure of speech. Early adopters (obviously not you) generally regard anything not the latest and greatest "obsolete." And so it will be when the iPhone goes from EDGE to HDSPA. Products become functionally obsolete a lot faster now than even products of ten years ago. Have you never heard of the concept "planned obsolescence?"

I have. And I have experienced it as well. For the iPhone to have planned obsolescence, it would have to break of become otherwise useless, forcing the user to upgrade, in accordance with the wiki you cited.
