Okay, Google is entering the smartphone market.

Anyone here want to place bets before it appears, to be able to look back upon and see how well we could prognosticate?

Well, this is not encouraging.

Competition is good. The Gphone will be another smartphone. If anything it will force Apple to lower the iPhone's price and keep up w/ things users want like GPS. Blackberry is still the leader of the pack anyway. I don't think Palm is deal and Win Mobile, though I hate it, has corporate approval too.

If it was just a simple phone for making phone calls I would buy one in a heartbeat!... sadly no one seems to make these anymore so I don't really care wich one of these two becomes dominant...

It sounds like Google is not making a phone, just the software. I imagine that Apple has patented the hardware/software of their phone, so it's not like Google is going to just rip Apple off.

Still, it's good to know that Apple isn't a one-trick pony, and it's other product lines are doing well.
