Out of interest can you tell me if the Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HD, which is the first item on the page, is at what you consider a good price?

Here in the UK I get very jealous seeing many of the cheap prices you lot mention for computer or other technology products. However, a couple of days ago someone on our local MUG group pointed out that a large mail order company here was selling that HD for £99 plus delivery. I investigated as I suddenly realised I had to have a 1TB HD, winking smiley , and found that a good powerseller on eBay was doing them cheaper. I ended up paying just over £90 including all tax and delivery. Not only that it arrived by lunchtime the next day. That must be about $175 at present rates. Would you have to pay tax and delivery on top of that quoted price? What would that make it?

we only have to pay tax if the retailer is in the same state as us, or has a physical presence in our state (i.e. Amazon may be based in California, or wherever, but if they have a warehouse in Virginia [where I live], I'd pay sales tax. otherwise, I wouldn't). You'll almost always need to pay delivery costs for items ordered online, unless there's a special deal with free or reduced shipping. Tax/Delivery costs are always on top of quoted price.

we only have to pay tax tax collected automatically by an online retailer if the retailer is in the same state as us, or has a physical presence in our state (i.e. Amazon may be based in California, or wherever, but if they have a warehouse in Virginia [where I live], I'd pay sales tax. otherwise, I wouldn't).

We owe our resident state sales tax no matter where we buy merchandise online. It's just that states can't FORCE an out of state retailer to collect it...yet. And there's not much effort to enforce collecting directly from consumers in most states aside from a voluntary report on an income tax form...yet. New York is a notable, recent exception.
