No human being should hold "love" - the highest, most powerful emotion of connection and care - in their hearts for any corporation, an entity that exists on a piece of paper to maximize profit.

For shame to do otherwise!

I do not love, like, tolerate or even respect Comcast.

My experience has been just fine. Some, but not many problems with TV and internet.

I'm kind of on the line about them, too. My service is very reliable, and I've had excellent customer service and tech support. The only reason I resent them is because they're the only provider of cable TV where I live, and I think they're overpriced. I don't mind paying more for some things, but my cable TV isn't on that list.

Comcast is overpriced here, and does not even have the reliable bit going for them. Fortunately I have not had to get a service call done in a while. But friends and neighbors who have had service have reported it has gone way downhill since almost all of it is done by "independent" contractors. Waiting for the IRS to drop the hammer on them, how independent can they be if they drive a Comcast truck, and only do service for them?

The actual service was great, but the support was intolerable.

The tech guy who came to install the TV box even said that he hated Comcast.

That is too bad. Being overpriced is one thing, but not being able to come up with anything to offset the pain just adds insult. My experience was that a contractor came out and did the work when we ordered the digital box. But, whenever I've had a service requirement, the work has been done by Comcast employees.

Several years ago, while my husband was undergoing cancer treatment, my son moved the big TV and the digital box into the bedroom, because that was the most comfortable place for my husband to spend his time. The picture was absolutely crappy, so I called Comcast. Without really having any understanding of why getting a good signal was important to us, they still treated us like we were the most important people in the world. At one point, my little narrow street had three Comcast trucks parked in front, and there were guys crawling all over the place. They wound up totally redoing all of the cable outlets from the main line from one end of that ghastly crawl space under the house to the other and added a booster. All at no charge. Yes, it seems like slamming Comcast is the popular thing to do, but, when I'm totally honest, they've been great for us. Well, now me. I seem to screw up something on my remote on a fairly regular basis, and the tech support guys are all fun to talk to and walk me through getting it working again. smiling smiley

No free service calls or installations anymore from Comcast around here. All have charges attached to them since at least 5 years ago. Occasionally they have a free installation offer with new service, but to get that I would have to move.

Sure, you say that...until it's you who decides to incorporate.

Some of us know people who are slobs just like us, who have incorporated. There are plenty of other reasons, too. To protect a small business owner from being ruined by one lawsuit, for example. A sole proprietor? Great. We'll sue you, AND take your house and car. Same person, but incorporated. A corporation? Okay, we'll sue um...your...corporation (the house belongs to you personally, not your business entity) there are other examples, but this is a compelling one.

Still think corporations exist "on paper, to maximize profit?"

Sometimes it's to help minimize risk. For small business owners who don't want one frivolous lawsuit to force them to ride a bike and live at their mother's house, maximizing profit is beside the point!

Does that mean if you incorporate, we won't love you anymore? No! We still do! Especially if you make me Vice President. Or Treasurer! We love you we love you we love you!

I cut the cord with Comcast many years ago.
I'd like to have internet access at home, but it won't be with Comcast.

At that time, one could not buy service in advance. They wanted monthly revenue. They wanted $50.00 charges. They played some of the same games as Blockbuster with late fees and some rediculous rules to elicit late fees.
I was going on vacation so paid that month's and the next month's because I was going on vacation and would not be around for a month to pay bills. Did this (and still do) with utilities.
Came home to no cable.

They had sent the overpayment back.
And shut me off.
Hoping to get the $50.00 reconnect fee .
They got nothing.

They now have more payment options. They didn't then.
Comcast lost a LOT of customers here due to the crappy Postal Service at that time.
They didn't care if you had proof you mailed a check but the PO didn't get it to them timely. $50.00.
They idn't care if there was a line at the payment counter.
If you re still inline at 5PM when they closed the doors and yu had to come back tomorrow, your service would go off sometime after 5PM. $50.00.

Houses sprouted dishes. Seemingly overnite.

billb, as I recall you also live in Mass. Houses here "sprouted dishes" too. Mine would as well if I had satellite line of sight. But what you described could be my town here in W. Mass. People complain to the town board, but Comcast and the other cable companies convince the state legislators to take most of the remaining franchise power the towns had after the FCC changes and place it in a commission at the state level. That commssion is overloaded and ends up being almost powerless.
