Saw This one today:

Izuzu Axiom

"Hey neighbor, got a new car, huh. What is it?"

"Its a self-evident truth that requires no proof."

Then there's the KIA, popular with military folks and veterans.

Ford Probe, favorite amongst proctologists.

Your turn.

Nova. Spanish for "does not go."

SUVs with names of natural places, like Denali, Yukon, Tahoe, etc.

Those names are at least evocative of something remote or exotic, but how about Tacoma? Old Chief Tacoma not withstanding, when I think of Tacoma I think of the pulp mills you could smell 10 miles before you got there (apologies to any actual residents of Tacoma, as it might be better these days then it was when I was a kid in Seattle).

Mazda LaPuta ... Hookers and booze !
Opel Ascona ... Spanish slang for ... you've seen Britney's

Rolls Royce .... darn. They had a funny name in another language, too.

There's always the Ford Penis, but I don't think they used that name in Brazil.

Ever since the asian makers started making up japenglish or korenglish names for cars there have been plenty of nonsensical ones...Camry, Corolla, Altima, Miata, Prius, etc.

I always thought Prelude was a very odd name for a car. Prelude to what?

As with many things, the '60s and '70s had the best car names. My fave?...the english Zephyr Zodiac.

The Tacoma Aroma. The smell is gone, but the name lingers.

I though this thread was going to be about "names" we assign to our cars.

I had a wicked, beat up Vandura...named "Endora" (mother on Bewitched)

I had to chuckle when Buick came out with the LaCrosse a few years ago.

"However, la crosse means masturbation or swindling in Québecois slang, so it is sold as the Buick Allure in Canada."

I always thought "Passat" was a terrible name. I kept reading it as "Pissant".

And I won't tell you what "Prius" makes me think of because I am a lady.

Several years ago I knew a married couple who were both horrible drivers. They drove a Dodge, which was certainly the right message for anyone in front of them.

Laganza was a pretty bad name.

The car wasn't very good looking either.

Prius

Prius is not a verb but a Latin comparative adjective or adverb, the neuter nominative singular form of the adjective whose corresponding masculine and feminine nominative singular forms are prior,[citation needed] (see also Latin declension - Irregular adverbs and their comparative and superlative forms) with meanings "ahead, in front, leading; previous, earlier, preceding, prior; former; basic;" [28]. Some enthusiasts enjoy using Prii as the plural, which would be correct if prius were a regular second declension Latin noun. The actual Latin plural of the adjective is priora (Reference [27] is slightly in error here). All of these forms are nominative case and there are several other forms for the other cases. As for the plural of Prius in English, Toyota has said that it is simply Prius and also that owners are welcome to use whatever they like.

Perhaps someone could 'splain what that all means.....

My first car was a Buick "Special". It wasn't.

A daft uncle later gifted me with a Studebaker "Champion". It wasn't either although I'd like to have owned an "Avanti".

How about Ford Crown Victoria. What on earth were they thinking?...some vague allusion to Queen Victoria?

Hey DewGuy, I seriously doubt that Toyota had in mind a technical botanical term when it came up with Corolla. I say they just made it up, like Camry.
