Apparently you didn't even read the article so your subject is completely wrong. The DNC did not attempt to avoid any taxes. If you're going to post a comment on an article, please read it first.

It's not clear from the article whether the DNC made the arrangements with the intention of avoiding taxes or whether the taxes weren't assessed because the Public Works Department mis-interpreted their obligations.

Nice catch on the part of City Councilman Charlie Brown. (Great name!)

The committee hosting the Democratic National Convention has used the city's gas pumps to fill up and apparently avoided paying state and federal fuel taxes.

The practice, which began four months ago, may have ended hours after its disclosure. An aide to Mayor John Hickenlooper released a statement Tuesday evening saying that Denver 2008 Host Committee members would pay market prices for fuel and would also be liable for all applicable taxes.

I read it and the very first paragraph says...

Can't get much more clear than that.

There is a difference between the DNC and "The committee hosting the Democratic National Convention". The local committee hosting the cnvention is not the same thing as samintx tried to imply with her headline.

Also, it's quite clear that there's nothing in the article to suggest that the DNC made no attempt to avoid paying taxes. The DNC rep indicated that they will be paying whatever taxes are required by the city. It was the city that apparently could possibly have billed for the gas without taxes being levied. The scuffle is all about some folks in the city being alerted to the possibility that the DNC might be avoiding taxes if they get billed at the same rate as the city vehicles. The fact is, the city hasn't even billed the DNC for the gas yet, so this stuff is all just made up smoke and mirrors. I'm glad to see that sam and swampy read all the way to the first paragraph. Don't worry about reading any further or checking the story folks, I'm sure there couldn't be anything of import in the remaining 90% of the article. Ready! Shoot! Aim!
