You will probably backup the problem as well as your data. You need to boot in Safe mode as others have said. I had a similar problem and Safe mode (Shift key at startup sound) fixed it. I've found that many sites install cookies for Facebook, Google, Twitter, and a bunch of others, even though I have not visited those sites after removing all cookies and emptying the Safari cache. I have 2 do not track me extensions and the Safari do not track me option checked. I still get that crap. The upgrade is smooth as silk, at least it was on my 4 Macs. Just the base OS is upgraded. Nothing else is affected. Be sure to go through System Preferences with a fine tooth comb. Dropbox will transition well.I cannot speak for the others as I use none of them. Time Machine won't miss a beat.
